bpointelinSpidey--we will welcome any and all players to enter events as "local qualifiers" to play into the main draws.
Jeff--we have accumulated sponsors from outside the racquetball industry. The goal of the tour is to support the future of racquetball by bringing additional resources to the sport, rather than relying on the industry itself.

FOR IMMEADIATE RELEASE:
CLASSIC PROFESSIONAL RACQUETBALL TOUR BEGINS PLAY!
The Classic Professional Racquetball Tour is pleased to announce that some of the greatest, most popular players in the history of the sport will once again hit the courts this fall. CPRT will open a 7 city tour beginning in Las Vegas this October featuring 4 superstars of the past. The tour will feature pros and amateurs over 40 years old competing at each event for prize money and ranking points leading to a May CPRT Championships.
The Classic Professional Racquetball Tour will feature Ruben Gonzalez, Bret Harnett, Dan Obremski, and Mike Ray. The four CPRT pros have committed to play a full schedule for the 2006-2007 season and they are looking forward to bringing their legendary games to the court this season. “I am very excited about the opportunity to be back on the court with the other guys”, said Obremski. “The CPRT gives us the chance to help give back to the sport. I can’t wait for the season to start.”
Gonzalez, a Hall of Famer, who has won every title the sport has to offer and is considered a “freak of nature” for his incredible skills. Known throughout racquetball as a gentleman on and off the court Gonzalez is still ranked in the top 20 on the IRT. Harnett, one of the youngest champions in the sport, was known for his incredible power, unbelievable court coverage, and intensity. Obremski, a Hall of Fame member and former IRT Tournament of Champions winner, was known throughout his career for his amazing diving gets and as the best conditioned player ever in the sport. Ray, a former #1 IRT Pro holds many titles including multiple IRT National Championships. The left-handed Ray was voted by his fellow pros as having the best forehand ever. All four pros were considered role models for players and fans alike throughout their careers and look forward to representing CPRT as ambassadors of the game. “Competing against these guys who have been friends and competitors throughout the years while helping support the juniors will be exciting and fun, said Gonzalez. “I know all of us want to prove we are still the best.”
CPRT will run a maximum of 7 events in its initial season. Each event will feature amateur divisions in addition to promotional and charity events. Every tournament will be highlighted by a Doubles Challenge in which local players of all abilities will have the opportunity to play the CPRT Pros by making a donation that will go to local junior or high school programs in exchange for a chance to win racquets.
“This tour is going to be fun, four guys going out and playing as hard as they can, for prize money”, says Tour Commissioner Brian Pointelin. “With four unique and different styles of play from these guys, it is definitely going to be an event you won’t want to miss. On top of that, the contributions that the players and the CPRT will be making will be keys to the continued growth of the sport”.
