I'm an Open player and the bottom line is that I'm searching for an affordable glove that I can buy in batches. I found a place that sells the Ektelon Controller for about $6.

Generally speaking, how good (or bad) of a glove is this? Is it thin, thick? Is it relatively durable? This is the glove: http://tiemposport.com/tienda1/images/uploads/EktelonController2.jpg

My only concern is if it they're tacky enough with an Ektelon Vision grip.

Is there actually any difference between that glove and the $20 gloves?

Thanks.

I have been playing with the Ektelon Controller II glove for a long time and have no complaints about it. I also use cotton liners and wrist bands and they makes the glove last a long time (months). In fact I just have one glove on my bag and play with it until it is worn out from use. I do carry a new spare incase I happen to lose it.

At $6.00 a pop it works for me, but others seem to like the higher price gloves more.

I suggest you buy a couple and see how they work for you. If you sweat a lot and don't use cotton liners, they might not be the ones for you. The only flaw, is that sometimes the sticthing near the wrist area starts to go before the fingers/palm part wears out.

Thanks for the reply.

Are they thin compared to other brands/models? I've been using GB Movement and this glove is noticeably thicker than most gloves.

I don't have anything to compare them with. They feel thin to me, but you would have to try one to see for yourself.

I have basically always used the Ektelon Controller glove and can't even remember what I had used before. I am frugal and have always looked for low priced items as long as the item works out fine for me.

Example, I tried out the Gearbox line of racquets and could have gone with the $200.00 stick very easily. But I tried out their mid-line GB 125 and found I hit a lot better with it and got 2 of them instead for $60.00 each (on-sale at a brick store).

Guess what I am saying, is to try things out first and if the cheaper item works out fine, get it. If it doesn't, then you have to move up in price until the cost becomes prohibited.

I've been using the Ektelon Controller gloves for a few years now. I get them cheap on ebay four or five at a time. They are thinner for sure. I recently purchased the Head Ballistic gloves on eBay for $8 each to try something else and I can definitely feel a difference (tackier, thicker, and more protection for my knuckles). The Controller is fine for the price, but they don't last as long and I find myself switching gloves more frequently because they start getting slippery.

I also purchased two GB125s instead of one expensive stick like lionel - got them for $54 each. I love them!

Thanks for the replies.

I called racquetworld and they tell me that the Controller and the e-force weapon are basically the same thickness. According to them, the difference is that the Controller uses an inferior-quality cabretta leather. Whatever that means...

The weapon is thicker then the Ektelon Classic glove. I wouldnt say that the Ektelon uses "Inferior" materials but thinner material for sure. They do not last as long as the quality gloves but you get what you pay for too. The GB Movement is honestly the best glove I have ever used but they are pricey. Typically 6 gloves last me all year and then some without major signs of wear. I had a buddy that bought the classic and it was wore out within a couple weeks (Granted he only bought 1).

I totally agree with kyles. You get what you pay for. With the Gearbox movement I play two to three hours with the same glove, and as a result 8 gloves have lasted me over a year. I used to swear by Pro Kennex Pure One gloves but the Gearbox Movement far surpasses them in quality and longevity.

I ended up returning the gloves.

Negatives:
* The sweat transfers through the leather, so you see a huge sweat spot in the palm of your hand after a few games.
* I'm not sure how to explain, but After a few minutes the inner part of the leather starts feeling squishy. The tackiness between the glove and the grip is OK, but the gripping between the hand and the glove suffers.

I'm very picky about tackiness, and I knew after 5 minutes that this glove wasn't for me.
