Just a test.

Of what? Your ability to start a thread/post? If so it can be deemed a success...

It's not a real test without an ADD diagram, multiple "quotation marks", INSTRUCTOR TIPS, or an invented rule of racquetball.

The “TEST” was to see why I was “locked out” from MNP over the weekend because I had -60 points next to my name “Jordan (-60)”. There are “Message Scores” at the bottom of every post, and someone or something was clicking negative numbers on most of my posts. You get below a certain number (by name) and you will be zapped off the forum! Willie was nice and added some free points to get me back posting, but a few hours after fixing, I lost 300 points again. After reading some of the replies to this thread, I thought it may help to explain why I did this test. Sorry if I caused an inconvenience to anyone.

you mean people "don't liked" your posts, or you think there was some hackery involved?

Willie, after you added the 2000 points, I posted two replies at two different topics (one each), then lost 300 points. Within a few hours Both replies had negative message points, so I assume someone is “looking” for my name just to deduct message points, regardless of what I post. I assume you could know who this was through various tracking methods, or from whomever was logged on during those few hours. It if happens to me, it can happen to anyone. A problem when the public has the ability to silence others for any reason. Here are the first two posts that lost 300 points in a few hours, after you added the 2000 points. Was either post that bad for someone to deduct message points?

Posted on Why won't they believe? (-6)

Posted on hitting into the back wall to rebound to the front wall (-2)

Thanks, Jordan
PS, tried PM to Willie, but received error messages on screen.

Chances are that it did go through.

It tricks you into believing that it didn't go through then you do it again and for whatever reason...now there are 4 duplicate messages in the person's inbox.

Crazy....

We can see "whose doing it" but I'm guessing there's a glitch. Sure someone can unlike your thread, but they only get one vote per account on each post of yours, so...And new users dont get to vote at all until they reach a certain point level. So creating a new account would be slightly silly just to be able to vote. Unless our system isn't working properly which is what I'm assuming. Anyhoo. . today's Monday. . Will will check it out :)

if it's not a glitch, all it takes is one hacker, tony. perhaps someone with knowledge of this particular forum software.

on the other hand, maybe 300 members just don't like Jordan. . . .

CF, I was thinking along the lines of "on the other hand".
Although I didn't think along the lines of a hacker. I suppose anything is possible.

(edited 18 minutes later after posting this) BTW: Just lost another 18 points in 18 minutes, from 1727 to 1709 points :)

Either I have the “Kathy Geels (-161 points) Computer Bug”, or perhaps an attack from a “MNP Mutual Admiration Society”.

Some posts have a pattern. One post attacks someone, then a second post (person) attacks with a statement and/or message deduction. Often with little constructive criticism to the actual post content. These attacks are vindictive, mean spirited and done for sport, and anyone with enough time/points can “deduct” points from any post, maliciously and anonymously. All in fun? Perhaps, but lose enough points and lose the ability to post or reply on MNP. Most people are lurkers (readers) who are afraid to “sign-up” and post topics or replies, for fear of possible humiliation and attacks. It only takes a few bad apples to attack and/or banish any individual at will. It's a shame some people abuse this power.

Speaking of Kathy Geels. I don't always agree with her, but I respect her right to voice her opinions. I wonder why she has negative 161 points? Is there anything that can be done to prevent this from happening to others, without everyone becoming paranoid and deducting points out of spite and revenge?

Suggestion: The old racquetball forum (alt.sport.racquetball) had the ability to “block/filter” selected authors/topics from being displayed on just our computer screens. This didn't ban anyone, just allowed selective reading at will. I took advantage of that ability for one or two authors (dropshot) after losing patience from explanations to their posts. Perhaps an idea for the MNP site, if possible.

Nothing against MNP, but I think it's time to take a short vacation from MNP.

While I was locked out of MNP I realized I was spending too much time (on MNP) that I could have been spending on more important things, like trying to finish my own site (non-forum site). I also need to exercise and get my skinny legs into shape. Thanks for the wake-up call, be back soon!

Sorry, no graphic.

I think this "don't like" button is a big part of it.

Personally I think we should just have "Like".

Why focus on negative like that?

I try to click on Like more and more for you and Kathy.

If I start a thread and there are "don't like"'s on it I don't like the (-# next to title) as it's a sign of not a good thread. I click on like to balance it out.

Some are not a fan and that "DL" button is a way for them to show that to you except you don't know who it is.

I believe the voting system was created to distributed the moderator workload. (ie, so spammers and other no-goodnicks would be voted out by popular disapprobation, while worthwhile contributions would be rewarded). It looks like most posts don't receive votes, so I'm guessing that ratings are susceptible to undue influence over relatively minor squabbles.

Ignore filters are one option.
Or just skip a thread/post if it looks uninteresting.

So you admit to manipulating the "like/don't like" system to hide other people's opinions just so you can look good.

I just "don't liked" your negative post.
