Well here we go, flight leaves tomorrow for Tempe for another National Doubles Event…….I wonder if the USRA has taken the time to fix some of the issues we had last year……hhhmmm

I wonder if they will have the start times up by 5pm like they say….
I wonder if they took the time to make sure people were in the correct divisions….
I wonder if they fixed the late night parking issue at the rec center……
I wonder if the people at the check in desk will know what's going on……

These are just a few of the issues from last year…….

I wonder if……

See you in Tempe

WOW…….
We just took a beating from 2 players who are ranked in the low to mid 400's but are playing the A division and each has a tournament history of playing in Elites or Open…..

Guess it's another USRA tournament

Well, just out of curiousity, I went and looked....and yes, Andrew Zavala and Gavin Henderson did have some playing history in Men's Elite, but most of it was in the Men's A.
Zavala did play Elites in a shootout and won 3 matches, his only Open match was back in 2009 and he lost.
I also noticed that they lost in the very next round 15-9, 15-5 to the eventual winners of Courtney/Baker.

The team that won it, Ken Courtney only had one match record in Men's A and his partner Thomas Baker had alot of Men's B matches.....:-)

Hard to make a case for sandbagging based on match history.

Sorry to hear you were so disappointed in attending the event.

I was just as surprised as you were that they lost in the next round….Kind of makes you wonder how a player gets a 400 ranking…..

This was just one of many questions about the tournament that had people guessing… This year it seemed to be more about how they seeded players and what system the USRA used. I know in one division the #1 seeded Team in pool play had zero ranking points and zero tournament play. When it was asked how it determined it pretty much looked like a deer in the headlights. When it came time to play in the playoff bracket the #1 seeded team had only won 1 match (there pool was only 3 teams) while the #2 and 3 seeded teams had to play an extra match (4 in each of there pools) then play each other……still makes no sense.

Another big issue was people either playing in divisions they won the year before or playing in 2 skill events (posted as not allowed on the R2 sign up) but nothing was said.

I understand they it may be hard for the USRA to police event's to make sure everyone gets a fair chance to compete in an even draw but sometimes you need to really just wonder what the real reason is behind as to why it keeps happening year after year...
