Over the past five years, I'd be willing to bet no ref loves Rocky given how much he argues calls and sounds off (see the national doubles final vid, or many of the pro tournaments last year). He probably argues more than Kane, Alvaro, and Jack combined. That's not a knock, as it may be effective in getting him those close calls late in a match much like this strategy has been effective for Kobe Bryant (Suns fan here, yeah yeah).

To imply that Charlie is "prejudiced" for Rocky is a bit of a low blow. From what you describe, yes it sounds like Rocky deserved a technical. However, refs miss calls all the time, it's part of the game - this topic has been beaten to death. We all want the tour to be fair, that's a no-brainer. I'll bet you a smoothie that Pratt doesn't have pictures of Rocky above his bathroom sink or next to the speedometer in his car ... that's the only true indication of love.

Come on though Jason, this isn't a case of "missing" a call - if he saw the serve good and it was 1 inch short, that's excusable - the guy can only see what he sees. In this case, we're not talking about someone who didn't see the line. It's a clear case of "be consistent with your calls" which is refereeing 101.

Ben deserves the technicals he gets, his behavior on the court is entertaining but over the line quite a bit - Rocky gets away with it a lot though because of his charisma in general. He's really a pretty awesome guy (and Ben is too, he just comes off differently) so he gets away with it.

No excuse really needs to be made for Charlie here, he blew it, and it isn't the first or last time he'll blow it. I miss Thoerner.

I like Rocky and Ben. I didn't see their match, but watched Rocky's match with Kane. There were several avoidable versus replay hinder calls. Kane's response to Charlie were usually quick and simple "let's keep things consistent", while Rocky would lay into Charlie for a fair length of time. A technical against Rocky seemed likely and fair, but it never happened. Maybe that's why Rocky keeps doing it.

And BTW, was anybody here at that match? Who was the anti-Charlie heckler in the background? You could hear him quite well during the IRT-Network play-by-play.

Also, there are Tier 2 events where even the semis and final IRT matches are reffed by local amatuers, even A/B players. I ref'd a 5-game semi between Ben and Jack since no one else in the crowd was inclined to volunteer. Now I know why...That was the longest 2 hours of my life.

U just mentioned that rocky argues more then then k jack etc. And how many technicals has rocky gotten since pratt took over. I can think of one. Kane had him at 0 and he purposely got one so he would not receive a donut. And so again pratt may or may not have his picture up on his wall etc. But pratt favors rocky missed call or not. And yes ben being judged by his past nehavior and gets a technical when rocky didn't for the exact I mean exact same thing. Ya I would label that as prejudice towards ben. Sorry if errors. In text. I don't believe I made any excuses for anyone ... I agree that Charlie has and will, in the future, blow calls ... 100%, absolutely. It's part of the game, albeit a crappy part of the game, but still the reality. That said, I disagree with the sentiment that Pratt is biased toward Rocky or "loves" Rocky and that his affinity for him may change the outcome of a match.

We need a new smoothie bet Leo, it's been a while.

calls are always influenced by a player's rep. based on his past bad behavior I have a hard time feeling any sympathy for Ben.
