The www.gearboxrb.com website has been updated with new photos of this years product. Make sure to check it out and buy product......that is, IF you want your game to improve
easily 95 degrees out there. Sun was cooking. Almost as hot as up and comer Brandon Davis playing for Gearbox racquetball. He teamed up with verteran Zues Ocana. Zues was unfortuanately hit in the face by Mark Koidin with the ball. Things got heated and we almost saw 3 man brawl. Rocky/Koidin vs. Zues Ocana. It must have been the heat today that did it in for these three. All I know is that when Zues got nailed in the face that it was either intentional or a really hard miss hit. Mark is the man tho. He hit Zues and then called it quits. Smart move on his part. I wouldn't of wanted to get hit either. Some how Doctor Andy solved the issue and got Mark back on court where Zues and Rocky almost threw down. This is the stuff that people want to see! It was funny
Any ways, great matches today. 17 teams split into two groups.
Results were as follows:
Top 3 teams advanced
Group A:
1. Zues Ocana/Brandon Davis
2. Craig Lane/Greg Solis
3. Rocky Carson/Mark Koidin
Group B:
1. Scott Davis/Any Solis
2. Jesus Ustarroz/Brian Pineda
3. Ravi Sahoni/Gabe Medina
Craig Lane/Greg Solis over Ravi Sahoni/Gabe Medina
Rocky Carson/Mark Koidin over Jesus Ustarroz/Brian Pineda
Semis:
Craig Lane/Greg Solis over Scott Davis/Andy Solis
Zues Ocana/ Brandon "BC" Davis over Rocky Carson/Mark Koidin
Finals:
Craig Lane and partner over Zues Ocana/Brandan Davis
I believe the last point was an ace crack serve.....ouch!

It seemed like this was the year for upsets. Top seeds were falling out on the first day. Young bloods were on the rise. Men and woman had hunger this year for the most ritualed tournament of the year. To me it was not in fact a year of upsets. It was more along the lines of the toughest competition I have ever seen out there in the 6 years I have been playing in this tournament. Some say it was the toughest competition in at least 10 years +. Awesome.
Im not sure many picked the right winner for the Pro divisions. However, the most deserving team or individual did win this year. I thought if there was every going to be another year that Lane/Solis could do it, it was this one, and then WHAM!!! They ran into a power house of photons, Orr and Kirch!!! I unfortunately didn't get to see much of the match, but I would say by far, it was the most talked about match the entire tournament. Awesome win for Peters and Booth. Peters especially! You take an entire year of being yelled at, but I guess it pays off when you now get to spend your sundays pollishing your rings with Clubber. Still have 4 to go Mike!
After losing to Beltran and Longoria in the mixed I thought for sure they were the team to take it all. Wrong again. After a dispute with Jackie P., Jannel Tisinger turned it on and carried Geis to an impressive win over the top 2 teams in the draw, a World Outdoor racquetball Championship. Very impressive.
This was the first year I saw Rocky Carson look human out there. He really had to earn his singles title this year. Charlie Pratt makes a run for a finals spot and only falls a couple points short. 15-13, 15-13. So freakin close. I've never seen anyone play Rocky that tough and make him look so human since our great king, Brian Hawkes. Alvaro Beltran from Gearbox almost pushed a tie-breaker, but had a few unfortunate calls go against him.#-o
In a nut shell, the numbers where up this year, but more importantly the bar was raised in skill level. It was just mad and crazy how well everyone played. Team Florida had their best showing yet and are going to be a real threat next year to start taking more of CA's titles home if CA doesn't step it up and recongnize. The WPRO is making a real pressence now which is bad a$$. Was great to see Andy Hawthorne, Chris Crowther, Alvaro Beltran, Rocky Carson, Ben Croft, Charlie Pratt, Tony Carson Jason Mannino, and of course Cliff Swain banging it out there. Would be awesome to see Hawkes play on more of these!!!
Ellis, Hank Marcus, Allen Kazem, Vic L., Michelle, J. Serna, Bobby, Diaz, the MC, Scott Winters, Jim Banuelos, Gary Martin, Pettit, Steve Cook, Big Rod, all the racquetball sponsors, all the private sponsors, everyone else involved and all the winners did a great job with this tournament. Awesome playing! Awesome food! Awesome people! I love the direction WOR is going and hope that things only continue to grow. Going to be hard to top this year.
Last thing, the NY group made the tournament for me. I haven't LOL that hard in a long time. Nicest, funniest, Polite-est???, people you will ever meet. Freddy and Robert played awesome! Brandon Davis is up on the rise folks! Nice tournament for him. Make sure you give him props. He and his partner took out the 5th seed.

WOW!!! this has to be the most out of this world Day 1 in the history of the tournament.
Kirch and Orr take out Solis 11-8 tie-breaker. The winning point was on a full on dive from kirch and he rolled it out. Are you kidding me!!!! The man child is fierce!! Orr played just as well today. Steady....and ummmm....HHHEEEEAAATTTTTTTT
Baby Davis and Horn take out the #5 seed today with an 11-10 tie-breaking win! What the heck is going on! all the assumed "feader teams" are bringing it.
Sostre is Back!!! and Freddy never went away!! This team is my pick to win it all. Their game is frustrating and smart. They upset the #17 power team of Alvaro Beltran and Cris Crowther. Not sure if this is an upset as the NY team is ranked 1 spot higher.....definately an awesome win!
Team White Pride Dunn/Geis upset the #10 seed in an 11-7 tiebreaker. Silver/Polman played great to their credit butt it must be the pastiness that through them off and didn't think these guys knew what they were doing!!
Final upset of the day was the sleeper team of myself and Ivers upsetting the #8 seed of Johnson/Sandello in an 11-3 tie-breaker.
We almost had 3 other upsets today as well. The #1 seed was taken to a tie-breaker. The #3 seed was taken to an 11-8 tie-breaker. And the #7 seed was taken to an 11-8 tie-breaker.
Ladies and Gentlemen this is only day 1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

entries more than last year so far. By tomorrow we should have the exact number.....Vic was really close.
We are over 200 entries as of today......I think we will be very close to 300 entries in this tournament.....would love to see it.
The numbers are not the remarkable factor of this tournament. It's the competition that is scarey......draws in all divisions will be tough
Im calling it right now....Amber Hawkes wins the 10&U girls......Yes folks!!! the spawn of hawkes has made it to the big show. The Question is, will the service lines be moved even further in after we see her play!!! After all, she is a hawkes

100 entries are in. Lots of people this early. This could be one of the biggest turn outs in the history of this tournament.
This past weekend in Stockton, CA. was my first time at a WPRO tournament, other than the 2007 US Open. I was curious to know how the woman played as I have never really payed too much attention to it. In short I must say that I was really impressed with all the woman there. I guess I couldn't have picked a better weekend to go any ways with all the tough matches, and amazing events that took place.
First off, as usual big props to Angela and Pablo from racquetballonline.tv they did an amazing job as usual and were able to bring everyone at home the great matches for FREE. I hope we can all take the time to donate whatever you can for this service. Angela was there from the begining of the matches until at least 1030 at night. On top of that she was able to make it to the quarters while running this for us, and playing on an ankle injury which has caused her to miss a few events. Tough woman no doubt!
Secondly, Congrats to Paola for making it to the finals and becoming the first player out of Mexico to finish #1 the world, and also being the youngest player ever to finish the end at #1. She played great matches and was very humble and blessed after losing to her opponent. Wish her all the best next season.
Kristen Bellows!!!!!!! WOW.....by far the toughest opponent for all the ladies out there. She put together the best tournament I've seen from any female. Her diving around the court and her gets almost shadowed JMan. hahaha....but seriously. The way she played this weekend was nothing more than perfect. That was her frist WPRO win, and what a time to win it.
Major props for Aubrey O'Brien for qualifying at the event and winning the Mixed Open doubles. I had never really seen this girl play before, and I was fortunate to get an up close and personal with how amazing of a player she is and is going to be, as she took my partner and I out in the mixed. For sure the future of the WPRO.
Miss Feaster did an amazing job with this event and surrounded herself with amazing people to help get the fans involved. In all honesty I must say that the crowds were much more enthusiastic at WPRO tournaments than IRT events.
Lastly, a big shout-out to John Ellis for running another great event with your peoples. I cannot explain how you do it. You run a stellar event with great food btw. On top of being at the courts for at least 15 hours a day running around and doing a million things, you manage to play. Not only did John play this weeend, but he made the finals of all 3 of his events. He beat Jose in the Open singles 11-8 tiebreaker (major ups for Jose) He won the Mixed Open doubles with Aubrey O'Brien over Rojas/Nance, and he made the finals of the Men's Open Doubles with Adam Karp. They were suppose to play J.Rojas/M. Rojas but all 4 split the cash monies instead. Congrats and Thanks again. BTW, Glad I got to see Karp play. The guy played really well and, in my opinion, could be in the top 10 right now if he chose to. The guy has hands like Alvaro and money shots from all over the court, and can dive like an animal.
Awesome tournament. Awesome people. Go Gearbox!

Awesome tournament. Awesome people. Go Gearbox!
Another great showing for Gearbox players in Cali, Columbia. Thanks for representing the county and the Gearbox team!
The draw was not as deep as it has been before. That being said, there were some really tough top players in this division. Such players included:
Jose Rojas
Allan Crocket
Tony Carson
Anthony Herrera
Joey Lakowske
Zach Apperson
Danny Lavely
Jared Torres
Matt Barserian
Jose just played lights out until the Finals. He showed signs of being human. However, he some how pulled out a great victory. He found a way to win when he wasn't playing his best.
Allan Crocket really suprised me with his play. I knew he was a good player, but the time he spent with Coach Agustine Tristan really payed off. His footwork and movement on the court was some of the best I've seen all weekend. He played great all tournament long. I think he will have alot of momentum going into next years tournament
Tony Carson played great for the most part. He was definately off his game against Jose, but I think it had to do with Jose playing at another level. Tony played lights out in his match against Anthony Herrera for 3rd and 4th. It's ashame it was his last year and the tournament needs a quality player like Tony in the draw
Anthony Herrera didn't have his best tournament, but was definately my pick for the sportsmanship award this year. (who won btw?) He didn't take any calls that I saw, even when the ref made a bad call, he would overturn it himself and do the right thing. He too played his last year.
Joey Lakowske suprised me. Great drive serves and great shooting when he took his time. Kid can put some pace on the ball. I heard he is just coming back to playing this past year as he was busy with Baseball. No offense, but it shows as the consistancey wasn't there. That being said, another year should get that consistancy correct and he is going to be tough to play.
Zach Apperson gets better and better everytime I see this kid play. His swing is perfect as it flattens the ball. I didn't get to see too much of his play, but what I saw was nothing short of improvement. I believe he still has one more year left.
Danny Lavely cracks me up. You look at him and he seems so easy going and leisurely. On the court he is anything but that. He moves pretty well and can place the ball well. I pick him to be the dark horse next year
Jared Torres really stepped up his game since being back. He left for a couple years and just started played in mid January. The kind of ball he plays is great to watch. He is definately a well rounded player. He has composure, great shots, and most importantly a good head on his shoulders. I'd like to see a Torres Rojas final next year. I think he has one more year?
Matt Barserian got shafted on the draw i think. Both him and Jose are from the same state and both from the North. I don't think there was much considered when he was put into the draw. Hopefully he gets a little respect in the seeding next year. That being said, he was one of two guys to take a game off Jose. He rips the ball.....I mean rrriiiiiiippppssssss kaboom! hahah.
Jose Rojas
Allan Crocket
Tony Carson
Anthony Herrera
Joey Lakowske
Zach Apperson

Was another great tournament this year and I was glad to see it back at ASU as was everyone else that participated. I did not participate this year as I did not go to school full time, but I had a front row seat to many of the great matches played this weekend and now I'm 100% possitive I will be playing next year.
First off, I have to hand it to the USRA for having to work such hellish hours from about 8am-1am. I got there on Thursday and witnessed this for two days straight. Heather, Otto, Jim, Shane, and the Collegiate Coaches did a fine job once again. Big thanks to ASU for having the tournament back at their great facility.
Secondly, Congrats to Sherryl Lotts for playing lights out against Kara Mazur in the finals of the Woman's #1. Kara is a great player and it was just one of those days for Sherryl. I watched in amazement that she was hitting over head flat rolls, moving and diving followed by a kill shot. The girl can play and that rocks!! Congrats to both girls
Congrats to Jose for playing lights out almost the entire tournament. Allan Crocket also played some high level ball, forcing a tie-breaker in the Finals of the Men's #1. Jose did not play his best ball the entire game, but it just goes to show that he is a true champion. He found a way to win when he didn't play his best. Congrats to both players
Final, Congrats to all who participated and all the team awards and the All American Award winners. Thanks to all the sponsors who sponsored the event and to those that showed up to support and promote the sport as best as possible. I hope you all had a chance to come by the Gearbox Trailer. If not, we will see you all next year.

Nothing is obviously 100% correct, but I think I have the best understanding of where people are on paper. When i made this list, I used observation more than a bias opinion. I think it's pretty darn close too. I'm pretty sure I didn't miss anyone. here we go: (sorry if I butcher names)

First off just wanted to say thanks to all the sponsors, especially racquetball warehouse and gearbox. Racquetball Warehouse set up an awesome booth and are just a stand up group of guys. Thanks to them for stepping up and being the main sponsor. Thank you Gearbox for being able to send me up there to participate. You guys also set up a sweet display and the new shirts are great. I think alot of people are responding well to them so keep them coming.
John Ellis and Company, along side the new CSRA, did a great job of putting some class back into the CSRA tournament this weekend. They had a full pay out in the mens Open division (1st- $1,000 2nd-$500 3rd and 4th-$100), Wooden placks for all the winners, snacks provided throughout the entire tournamet, some great mexican food for the banquet, and most importantly the tournament did not even run behing for one match. With the great help of Ellis and company, the CSRA, IMO, are making leaps and bounds to bring back a well run tournament.
The host club was recently taken over and alot of rentovation was done. The club was a great location as it was one of the first events I have been to that wasn't in the middle of no where. Hope to see more tournaments here in the future.
I was personally humbled and am in awe of how well the No. Cal juniors are playing. They are really going to elevate the level of play in California, and will carry California in the future as the best group of Open players in the Nation. Abrie O'Brien and Devon Pimintelli (sorry for the spelling) put on a great match in the womans open singles. Abrie is showing that she is the next best thing and Devon will be a force to wreckin with in the near future.
John Ellis and Jose Rojas put on a great show in the finals of the Men's draw. John came out and showed the packed house(200+ people) the player of back in the day. He beat Jose with what looked like ease in the first game. Jose came back to win 15-10 in the second game and showed everyone why he will be a world #1 someday. The tie breaker was nothing short of amazing as John was down 8-5 before he took a time out, came back and won, in pure ellistyle, 11-9 to become the 2009 CA state singles Champion.
Final thanks to Debrah Nathan and Colleen Keating did a great job with the banquet. The after party was a big hit at very nice night club.
I hope these tournaments continue in the same fashion and I hope they keep getting better and better. I hope the CSRA keeps going in a positive direction so that we do get the top players in CA such as:
Craig Lane
Mike Orr
Jason Geis
Greg Solis
Cris Crowther
Josh Tucker
Micah Rich
Dawoud Garfashard
Andres Herrera
John Ellis
Jose Rojas
Jose Diaz
David Horn
Dale Valentine
Terry Durham
Tom Durham
James Swift
Tom Furhman
Marco Rojas
Matt Barserian
Phil Mathews
Scott Davis
Jon Dunn
Rafael Filippini
ect.....
wow....now that I think about it, this would be a lethal draw if all these guys showed up in one place.
Any ways, Good job and congrats to all the winners.

are going to be playing this tournament (minus Jason Thoerner)
This will make for a great tournament and see if any lower ranked players will beat a higher ranked player.
