What happened to your florida superstars in the singles/doubles Vic?

I remember hearing in Las Vegas how no one from Cali ("bring Rocky Carson") could win at long wall in November.

Doh, just another Florida delusional ...

Big Rod, Joe Lee and company. August 19-26, THE Phatlefty is coming to the rock. Not only will I be vacationing there, I'll be taking you all to school on your home courts. When shall I plan to play with you fellas? After the outdoor nationals, I'm in need of a confidence rebuilder and I think Waikiki is just the place for that.

Hit me up!

DANG FREDDY!!!

it was nice meeting the others (smith, free, holiday jeff, maupin, mikeB) , holiday is a sweet spot! 20-30 players every Tuesday Thursday, good comp, and characters to boot!

Folks

Weather permitting, a group of us will be hooking up at 3:30 tomorrow. The courts are at North Weddington Park at the end of Acama St., just west of the intersection of Acama and Lankershim (exit Lankershim from the 101). The game is one-wall ... bring the ruckus!

Is this event going to be streamed?
Jordan, some more questions:

1) I've been thinking about selling some stock option contracts on Apple. Would you recommend selling April puts with a strike price $15 out of the money, or April calls $15 out of the money? Both contracts would bring in equal amounts of cash ...

2) As you know, I live in California, a state that has very high taxation. In a recent trip to San Antonio, I noticed they don't have a state income tax in Texas, but they do have higher property taxes (fractionally at least, maybe not in terms of absolute values because housing is so cheap there). Can you give me the cost/benefit details on making the move from a place like southern California to a place like Texas?

3) Finally, and most importantly, I would like your help with my next trip to China. I'll be leaving at the end of April and will be there for two weeks (Beijing and Dalian), partly for a conference and partly for pleasure. My dad is going to come along, and neither of us speak a lick of Chinese (Mandarin). What is the best way for us to go about learning Chinese well enough to get around, given that we're from different generations and probably learn best from different methods?

Thanks for the help, from reading your posts you appear to be like those mythbuster guys who know everything, so hook me up!

1) I am playing an opponent who likes to shorthop (cut off) ceiling balls. Are the rules written such that I could be assessed a penalty hinder when a ceiling ball's first bounce is close to me and he says he wants to cut it off. This happens in doubles sometimes.

2) At La Fitness Garden Grove, there is a gap about 1.5" wide in the floor next to the wall. I, being a lefty, am able to consistently hit a wallpaper serve that lands in this gap and sticks there. Is that a court hinder, or is it a point? The ball just gets wedged in the gap and never bounces out.

3) If I am in front of an opponent as he's getting ready to rip a set up (down at his knee or shin level), and I jump such that my entire body is more than 3' off the ground, and he hits me (let's say the ball hits my shoe at 31" above the ground), is this a penalty hinder. I failed to give him the straight in shot, but would a shot that's aimed five feet high on the front wall be considered an offensive shot.

4) At a tournament in texas, I got lit up with a reverse pinch twice, and my opponent buzzed the tower about three or four more times. During the ensuing rallies, I took every opportunity I could to rip him. However, he was fast and knew he was on my radar, so the only way I could really peg him like I wanted to was to make it look like I was going for a boast. If I disguise it well enough, and should I have been able to catch him on the love handle, inner thigh, the neck, or some other place that would send him a message, could I be assessed with a technial? Could I be forced to forfeit the match?

5) Back to 4) - after hitting me with a reverse pinch twice, are there ramifications if he continues to light me up with the reverse? Can a ref penalize him for this even if he's not doing it on purpose, contrary to me intentionally sending a missile at his rib cage?

Thanks for your thoughts ...

The tournament starts in less than two weeks folks, and only 110 participants!?!?!?

Who's coming from TEXAS and is going to qualify for the US team? Ackermann ^ 2, Savage, Jansen A, DeJesus??

Cali should be repped with Doyle/Crowther, Solis/Lane, Geis/Dunn, Valentine/Entrikin, Orr (with Llacera), Fuhrmann/???

Who else is coming to this shindig ...

So, without Beltran in the mix, the 4-spot is up for grabs.

Unless early round upsets take place (I'm gunning for you J-man, let's throw some benjis down), Maninno will play Vanderson in the quarterfinals. Given that Maninno is defending semi final points, the winner of this match will lock up the #4 spot.

What are your picks for the quarters? Mike Orr, Leo, Club, let's go smoothies on some of these matchups ...

Phats picks :

Quarters:
Kane over whoever in 3 straight (Kane's too tough to lose this early)
Rock over Crowther in 4 (Rock's too tough to lose this early)
MITCH over Jack in 4 (Mitch lives/trains at altitude, is a fellow lefty, and crunches balls .. CRUNCH)
Jman over Vanderson in 4 (BIG SHOW, GLASS COURT, at altitude, all J-man)

If they win their early rounds, we should have a phat vs short matchup of the Jason's in the 16s.

I hit some sick 4 foot high passes today - it was awesome!

Tom just waited in the service box and proceeded to flat roll everyone of 'em ...

#-o #-o #-o #-o #-o

And the wide angles suck too ... I kept hitting em with too much angle to keep them from going out the door.

It's probably been 5 years since killing a setup of the back wall was that hard.

This sucks ... guess I'll be staying outdoor all summer ..
