Thanks in advance for your support!
Ahhh.... I finally feel as though I have recovered from an AWESOME weekend.
The tournament was awesome and alot of great racquetball was played. But what makes it possible to have a tournament like this is the help and support from friends. There are so many people to thank, I don't want to leave anyone out.
First let me start out with the sponsors of this event.
ProKennex & Mike Martinez: I've been with you for 6 years. When I first came on board we talked about having an outdoor tournament that we can grow from the ground up and make it the talk of the East Coast. Well this was the 5th Annual event and we haven't slowed down yet. Thanks for your continued support.
40by20.com: Your support and motivation make things alot easier. Always there supporting outdoor racquetball. Your financial contribution and your willingness to help are admirable.
DiSalvo's Italian Restaurant: What can I say, always willing to contribute and keep all the players fed. All you asked was how many people am I expecting and you fed us all. Because of your generosity, these tournaments are affordable and we are able to offer the cash prizes that we do.
Racquetworld: Even though this was the first year that I have worked with you, it definetly will not be the last.
Top Play Gear: I have ran approximately 15-18 tournaments in the last 5 years and this years shirts are the nicest designed shirts of them all. Top Play Gear is a 1st class operation.
Now, on a personal level:
The ENTIRE BERNSTEIN FAMILY!!!: Players in South Florida are lucky to have the Bernstein family. And I really mean the ENTIRE Family! Harvey "The Grillmaster" Bernstein, tirelessly working the grills keeping 135 players and there families and spectators fed. Rick & Mindy Bernstein, helping out at the desk and checking players in. Rick was constantly on the move helping find players, referees and just doing everything he can possibly do. Mindy keeping me in line and making sure all the players received a nicely folded shirt. And of course, MICHAEL BERNSTEIN, this young man is a machine. Michael keeps that desk running smoothly.
Chris Young: This is the other half of the WOR Directors for Florida. Chris has a knack for finding referees for games, he just walks up to people and hands them a card with a pencil and tells them to ref the match, then just walks away. Being a former WOR Director for Florida and knowing what is involved, I am confident Florida is in good hands with Michael and Chris.
Rob Mijares & Mark Maupin: These two guys do so much for Florida racquetball behind the scenes that people do not know about. They do this tirelessly and without hesitation. Players come to these tournaments and love the fact that everything is there for them. These things such as tables, coolers, chairs and tents don't just miraculously appear, they get brought to the tournament by these two guys.
Hale Sakoff: Also a former WOR Director. Even though he has stepped down from the administrative postition, his support for outdoor racquetball has not diminished. Because of Hale, Powerade is also a sponsor.
I know there must be a few people I have left out, it is not intentional. There were so many people that helped in getting this tournament all come together, Susan Suid, Tommy Ale, Brian Pineda and more.
All I can say is Thank You all for your help and support.

For those of you that have not tried this racquet out yet, you don't know what you are missing. I have been playing with ProKennex for over 5 years now and this is the best racquet they have ever come up with!!!!!!!!
I want to take the opportunity to say thanks to all those who came and participated at the PRO KENNEX Outdoor Championships this past weekend in Boca Raton, Florida. We had a fun-filled 3 days of beautiful 70-75 degree Florida weather.
To all those who helped make this tournament happen, I especially wanted to thank you, it could not have happened without all of your help.
Pro Kennex: Mike, thanks for everything you have done for me in getting this tournament going. I had an idea a few years back and you helped make it happen.
Racquetball Warehouse: Ben, it was great finally meeting you in person. Having you here made the event even more successful than ever before. Players really liked having you guys there.
40by20.com: Mike Augustin, thanks for everything, without sponsors like you, this event would not have been as successful as it was. We spoke just about every day leading up to this event and your insight was worth more to me than you know.
Rocky, Shane, Alejandro, Marty, Corey: Having the Pro's come to this event and playing just adds a whole lot more to the tournament, thanks for coming, everyone enjoyed watching you play.
Michael Bernstein & Chris Young: Thanks for handling the desk and keeping my blood pressure in check. You guys are awesome!
Harvey "Grillmaster" Bernstein: Words cannot express how much all you do is appreciated. You are the best.
Vic Leibofsky & Hale Sakoff: All the back end help you guys do that goes un-noticed is vital to making an event of this magnitude happen. Very much appreciate all your help.
Rick Bernstein: For being there to help fill in whenever and wherever needed.
Thomas Payne: For hooking us up with all the naval gear, (tent and trailer). We had the best tournament desk of any tournament I have been involved with thanks to you.
If I forgot anyone, I am sorry. Do not think that your contribution went un-noticed. It is because of everyones effort that this tournament is successful.
START TIMES ARE NOW AVAILABLE!!!
Players, if you made a request for start times, such as "cannot play Friday" or something, all those request were made. If you did not make a time request due to work or something, NOW IS NOT THE TIME to do so.
See you all at the park.

Well it's about that time again, November. Time for everyone to come on down to Florida and play in the Biggest Outdoor Racquetball Tournament of the East Coast!
The following announcement has been made regarding Kane Waselenchuk and Pro Kennex!!!
I hope no one gets there panties in a bunch over this, it's for fun...
The 2010 Outdoor Championships has turned into a who’s who in outdoor racquetball. There will be current IRT Pro’s, former IRT Pro’s, Legends and Local Hero’s going for the title. There will be over 25 teams competing for the Pro Doubles cash and title, but realistically, only few teams are in real contention.
Here are my predictions:
Tommy Ale / Yelandi Rivero: 1.5 to 1: This team is the best long wall team that Florida has to offer. When they first walk on the court they don’t seem like much but you can’t take them for granted, if you do you will be watching the rest of the tournament from behind the fence.
Shane Vanderson / Joe Young: 2 to 1: This is my pick for the other half of the championship match. This team should be named team “BACK-HAND”
Cliff Swain / Marty Hogan: 4 to 1: Definite semi-final team. Marty can get into anyones head and talk them out of there game and Cliff is a machine. Fun team to watch.
Alejandro Herrera / Andres Ramirez: 4 to 1: Serious power, speed and shot making ability. Both have been playing outdoors and have what it takes to eliminate some serious teams.
Ross Greenberg / Aaron Metcalf: 6 to 1: Watch out for this team, they are the sleepers in this division and can upset a couple of teams. I definitely will look for them in the Quarter-finals and possibly the semi’s.
Corey Brysman / Tim Hansen: 8 to 1: Florida Legend Tim Hansen is a beast on these courts, he is so long and practically reaches across the whole court. Corey is the athlete of the team, former touring Pro. This team can cause a couple of upsets, look for them in the Quarters.
Vinny Carvallo / Maykel Rodriguez: 8 to 1: The two most athletic guys in the draw. They practically have it all, youth, athletic, power, speed, great shot selection. What’s stopping these guys from winning this??? Over-confidence.
Todd Pohlmann / Garry Smith: 10 to 1: Very good team from Holiday Park, Garry has the ability to win anywhere, Todd is a hustling machine. Quarter- finals at best.
Fabian Pedraza / Robert Sostre: 12 to 1: Someone should let Robert know that those two big slabs of cement on both sides of him are walls, this is not 1-wall. Good luck.
Mike Harmon / Toby St.Pierre: 12 to 1: Somebody better tell this team that these courts have no ceiling, back-wall or air-conditioning. The over/under on how many ceiling balls this team shoots is 6…
Rob Mijares / Mark Maupin: 16 to 1: I will be rooting for this team, great chemistry and experience playing together, sorry I can’t give them better odds.
Andres Alonso / Alex Cuartas: 16 to 1: This team can probably get through the first round depending on there seeding but I don’t expect them to make that much impact in the later part of the draw. A lot of there success depends on which Alex shows up, sometimes he can kill everything that he wants and than there are other times where he has trouble hitting that big slab of cement in front of him.
Jorge Arias / Maikel Valladares: 16 to 1: I like these guys, I have personally known them for about 15 years, too bad they won’t go far. We will have a lot of time after there first round match to catch up and talk about old times.
Michael Arias / Randy Ellman: 16 to 1: Don’t expect them to make it past the first round. Even though that Randy is a long wall specialist, this draw is too deep for this team to compete.
Ralph Cuesta / Joey Masachs: 16 to 1: These two guys shoot from everywhere on the court, but I have seen them self-destruct too much for my taste. Can possibly upset a couple of teams but don’t count on it.
Eric Harper / Mitch Slater: 16 to 1: Didn’t expect these two guys to get together, odd couple, early exit.
Roberto Cantos / Chuck Teschke: 28 to 1: Roberto I do know, very solid player, still getting use to the outdoor game. Chuck, I don’t know him so I don’t give him much of a chance.
Augustin Carvallo / Jeremy Longmire: 28 to 1: Two of the nicest guys you will ever meet. I feel bad that I can’t give them better odds, but let’s be real, this is one hell of a draw and nice guys will not win this.
Robbie Johnson / Thomas Payne: 28 to 1: I expect Robbie to dive all over the court, unfortunately the hits are just going to keep on coming. This is a good newly formed team, but there are some heavy hitters in this draw.
Scott Breese / Neil Chafloque: 30 to 1: Scott, sorry I don’t know you much by I do know Neil. Neil is stepping up very fast, he has been playing racquetball for a short time in comparison to most of the other players but he is doing well. Unfortunately I think he bit off more than he can chew right now.
Danny Lavely / Chris Young: 30 to 1: Danny, all the National titles are great for indoors but this is outdoors. Chris is going to have a lot of time at the tournament desk after the first round with Mike making sure the tournament runs smoothly.
Tony Smith / Larry Wasserman: 32 to 1: Really… Sorry guys, first round.
Michael Bernstein / Luis Vazquez: 39 to 1: I figure that Michael is a co-director for this tournament, he’ll have a lot of time to sit behind the desk and make sure the tournament runs on time. Sorry SPIDER…
Edgar Brambate / Bryant Ruano: 39 to 1: I give these guys credit, they are testing the waters of the Pro Division. P from the “A” Division. They are going to fail this test.
Frank Butler / Todd “Tsunami” Nguyen: 39 to 1: Hope these guys take the time to enjoy the experience, it will be over fast…
Larry Cashion / Jim Fanning: 39 to 1: Can’t tell you much about either of these two guys accept where they are from. Not a good sign…
Dan Dobrinich / Dave Soll: 39 to 1: Can’t tell you much about either of these two guys accept where they are from. Not a good sign…
Gonzalo Espinosa / Victor Solar: 39 to 1: I expect these guys to go deep in the “A” Doubles division, luckily they won’t get too tired playing in the Pro’s, 1 round and done…
Jack McDonald / ???????: 99 to 1: No partner, these are the best odds I can give you
First, don't anyone get this wrong, I DID NOT play in this event. For some reason when I got to the club, I realized that these courts had back walls. Why would someone put back walls on these courts. I went to this event as the Pro Kennex Representative and set up a demo table for players to come by. Well anyway, this is how it went.
I spent alot of time watching the Pro Players matches and seeing them interact with the crowds of people that were there. Let me tell you, this is an awesome sport. There is NO other sport that Professional Players are as accessible to the general public as they are in racquetball. I watched Andy Hawthorne take about 15 minutes out to explain technique and form to a player that was asking him about generating more power, Andy went on to explain to him how power is generated from the hips and how having good form and follow-thru is also important, all while demonstrating this to him. Chris Crowther came by my table a couple of times and just started talking to me about how he felt he had been playing lately and that he was happy with his game. He was telling me that he hates to forfeit a match and that is why he toughed it out in his match with Jason. Rocky Carson stopped by and said hello and that he wants me to keep in touch with him and let him know when the next Pro Kennex Outdoor Championships is going to be so that he can try to make it. Jason Mannino and Kane Waselenchuk both coming to the table and signing posters for the public, as well as Mitch Williams.
I know there are some players that I have not mentioned, Ben Croft, Jose Rojas, Alejandro Herrera, Shane Vanderson and all the rest, but this goes for all the Professionals. Thanks for taking the time out to speak with everyone and making the experience what it was, MEMORABLE.
Just wanted to post to the public that I have notified Vic (National Director for the WOR) that I am stepping down from the position of Florida Director for the WOR.
When I began organizing tournaments in Florida about 4 years ago I did it for the fun and never thought it would grow to what it has. What has happened here in Florida is amazing and I am happy to have been a part of it. It is now time for me to step down and get back to enjoying the game more as a participant rather than an administrator. I will still be around and will continue to support the growth of Outdoor Racquetball in Florida and throughout the country.
I wish you and the WOR continued success.
This weekend at Rowlette Park in Tampa Florida, the racquetball courts got a much needed facelift thanks to Paul & Patrick Stinson and Boyscout Troop 53. Patrick needed to perform a community project as part of his Boyscout requirement and the Rowlette Park was the lucky beneficiary. Not only did they paint the courts and the lines but they also fixed up the picnic tables, added mulch to the area and repainted the lines in the parking lot.
Here are the pictures.

This is the tournament you do not want to miss. If you are an outdoor player, you have to be here, if you are an indoor player, you need to be here.
You can now sign up on r2sport by clicking here: www.r2sports.com/tourney/home.asp?TID=5992
I have attached a revised copy of the entry form. I have changed the Junior Division from Sunday @ 1:00 p.m to Saturday @ 2:00 p.m. The reason for this change is that most of the Junior players that would be participating in this event are out of towners that the parents will be playing on Saturdays Open divisions and they would not be able to stay for the second day.
Thank you to all the players for your understanding.
Do not miss the first of what is sure to be an awesome tournament at the Beautiful Forbes Recreation Center.
You can either register online, mail, fax or email. Check out the flyer and register now!
