I'm about to throw my hat into the ring and become a stringer. (300 more questions coming)

I play with Wilson mostly, and they all have the famous strings through the handle like Eforce does. I've seen a few posts about starting all 6 mains through the throat before mounting, but then how do I proceed?

Do I start my tensioning of the mains at the throat (where 3T would be) or at the head (3H)? I'm using a Klippermate so I'm confused if I should follow their 'A'(start at head/top) or 'B' (at throat/bottom) method. Should I compensate in any way for the ones I will not directly tighten? Or should I go back and start with the center mains?

And what is the preferred nomenclature? T for top or throat?

Thanks for any and all advice.
If anyone knows somebody looking to build a ball pit or whatever people do with these, I have a big bag full of old balls ready to be thrown out. Dog toys, craft project, horrible christmas present, whatever, you pay shipping and they are yours. PM me.
No changes have been made to www.irtnetwork.com and I have never received any of the latest updates or additional information.

Will this be a go for the Denver event? Any rumors or baseless speculations out there?

I looked at the upcoming events and saw National Intercollegiates...Will you be filming this tournament, and if so what events (men and women, quarters, semis, etc?)
Olympic draw, greatest racquetball raffle on Earth, etc. etc. We usually have 70+ participants.

I'm not sure how they did it but the players look 1000% better with these new cameras too. If you want to see more of this, tune in early and often and we might get some sponsor recognition for our sport. Tell your friends, tell your enemies, tell your friends' friends.

There are 6 IRT events this season taking place outside the US. Canada and Tijuana aren't really that exotic though...

Nobody in the top 25 went down to Columbia for their T4.

There is a T2 in Chihuahua Mexico this weekend. I can't find and info on the draw but I expect some IRT players will be there to take the $3,000 USD open prize.

On Monday Nov 2 the T4 Japan International Racquetball Championship starts, and it looks like Shane Vanderson, Andy Hawthorne and Tony Carson, Angela Grisar and Jo Shattuck will be there... my translator says they are 'invited' so who knows... I would imagine they would 'invite' everyone.

Next comes the TI Juarez Open on Nov 13-16, the next full T1 stop on the schedule. I assume is a full pro stop with all top 8 players. Last year there was a mexican tournament with T1 money that was called T2, so I imagine the prize money will be pretty big for this one.

Good to see racquetball expanding beyond our borders.

Saturday, December 6 is the date for the UW 2008 Winter Blast. We've been averaging 65+ people for these so it should be a good one. We'll have olympic style brackets. Let me know if you have any questions. See you there!

I was looking at the entry form for the 2008 US Open (trying to see the prize money breakdown, which is not given), and it says on page 3 that the games will be presented tape delayed on the Tennis Channel, and make no mention of espn360.com...

Is this a remnant of the Tennis Channel deal? Or is it just lazy copy editing? I thought the press release of the espn360 deal said they will have all US Tier 1 events? Aargh!!!

Racquetworld has released its annual racquet rankings. Of course, this is a subjective ranking system, based on the opinions of one man (an equipment dealer, Pat Bernardo) who has the opportunity to try out all the racquets available for sale every year, and puts a ton of time and effort into making this guide available for the racquetball community. If your sponsor's new racquet or your favorite trusty old racquet from 1997 is not listed as the best that does not mean you have to cry about it. To quote Pat, "Please also remember these are guideline ratings…they are not the law of the land. "

We all know that the newest racquets are generally ranked higher, this does not mean these rankings are worthless. Every single manufacturer, including your sponsor, claims their new racquets are at least 592% better than the racquets from last year. People ask all the time 'what racquet should I get?' around here and this is a helpful and extremely thorough guide of one man's opinion who frankly has played with more different racquets than pretty much anyone on earth.

Here's how he comes up with the numbers.

2008-2009 Racquetworld Racquet Rankings - Sortable by a number of metrics like Power, Frontcourt control, age group, bang for buck, etc.

Of course, the only way to find out what racquet is best for you is to demo a bunch of racquets and try them out yourself. In the end it really doesn't matter what racquet you choose- you'll get used to it and learn to love it eventually. Remember the best players in the world choose their racquets based simply on who will pay them.

Between this and the racquetballwarehouse.com's detailed specification data, you now have more than enough information to make an educated purchase from the meetandplay store!

Now, let the complaining begin!
Is anyone from the US participating in this event?

http://www.racquetball-wc2008.com/

From the time of this post, it's only 33 days, 3 hours 14 minutes and 30 seconds away!
We've set the date for our spring tournament- April 12, 2008. Our last tournament had 75 players so this should be a good one. We have 10 courts so we can accommodate the numbers. Draws will be collegiate style, and we'll have a doubles and women's divisions as well. More info as the date approaches.

Just got this from Howie- this is a great tournament and who can say no to free beer? Spread the word.

We are about a month away from the 31st Annual WAMBO racquetball tournament being held as always at Supreme Health and Fitness on March 15th and 16th. We are lucky enough to be sponsored again this year by Fauerbach Beer and are looking forward to another great event. I have a special request this year of anyone who has access to racquetball players e-mail addresses who are not Supreme members. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE forward this entry to anyone who is not a Supreme member that may want to play. My racquetball e-mail contacts disappeared with my stolen lap top and I could really use some help getting the word out. I hope to see you all at the event in March.

Thanks,
Howie

I notice that a lot of books and DVDs talk about being balanced throughout your swing. Obviously you don't want to be off balance both for your shot and for your relocation back to center court.

But most of the instruction seems to say things like 'keep a 60/40 front/back' weight distribution, or 'push off with your back leg' or 'weight back on follow through'

This doesn't seem too practical to me- especially on backhands it seems everyone ends up almost 100% on the front leg and is dragging the back foot forward a bit on the follow through, and could pick it up without any change in balance.

Falling forward is clearly wrong, but is it really so bad to end up with your weight completely balanced on your front leg?

For anyone that missed it in the midwest forum, this is probably the best collegiate tournament other than nationals in the country:

It's in St. Louis in two weeks.
LAS VEGAS, Nevada (AP) -- Four years after retiring, illusionists Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Horn say they may just reappear.

Siegfried and Roy say their act could make a return to the Vegas stage.

The German-born performers' long-running "Siegfried & Roy" production ended in October 2003 when Horn was critically injured on stage by a tiger.

"A good magician never lets the cat out of the bag," Horn told the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Friday for a story about the pair's possible return to show business. "Act surprised when you hear about it."

The tiger sank its teeth into Horn's neck and dragged him off stage in front of a horrified audience at The Mirage, ending one of the most successful casino shows in Las Vegas history.

Siegfried, 68, said retirement has had its hurdles.

"The stage is my life. It took some adjustment. I was really not ready for it," he said.

Siegfried said he marvels at Horn's dedication to his recovery regimen, which includes daily rehabilitation and trips to a gym three times a week, including games of racquetball.

"It cheers me up," Siegfried told the newspaper. "All the doctors say what he's doing now is impossible. I've always said, 'I am the magician and Roy is the magic.' And Roy shows me every day the magic -- the magic of life."

Horn, 63, gets a boost from visits to his family of animals at The Mirage, including Montecore, the white tiger that attacked him.

Horn and Siegfried remain convinced that Montecore sensed Horn was having a mini-stroke and was dragging him to safety, rather than attacking him.

"I hang out with my lifesaver," Horn said.

There's something exciting that can be done with the all glass court and Sigfried & Roy, but I'm just not sure what it is yet...

I hope the Nevada state assn is contacting him- people love celebrities.

(Manny can have my points, somehow he missed this one)

I just got off the phone with a real nice guy named Chris at the new LA fitness in the South Loop (1101 S. Canal) They just opened and have 4 racquetball courts. He said they have a special running for $34.99/month that includes everything in the club and you can play at any LA fitness in the country, and they are apparently opening a whole bunch more in the suburbs and around Illinois in addition to what has already opened.

Just wanted to spread the word and let people know there are now more courts in the city in case they search or whatever.

LA Fitness has been supporting racquetball and building courts throughout the country, so let's make sure the courts don't get turned into spin studios or whatever the exercise fad will be in 2009.
