I see that USAR now has doubles rankings. This has been needed I think, but I don't understand it at all. I haven't found an explanation anywhere on the site that explains the formula. I have only played with 1 partner, and our rankings are thousands apart. Anybody have any idea how what type of formula they are using?

This seems like a silly question to ask, but it keeps coming up. We have only newer glass back courts at our club with no top viewing. There are some old school players, or players who came from clubs that did have top viewing. I personally only see this happen once every month or so, but it still makes me wonder. I don't see in the rule book where it says anything about a "blast" shot hit high on the back wall as being out. They call it out if it hits above the panel line about 6ft down from the ceiling. We do not have a line up there besides the natural line from the paneling. I think it's something that should be decided on between opponents ahead of time if they want to call it out or not, but if it's not talked about, I'm under the understanding that all shots are "in" play on the back wall with this style of court. Thoughts?
Huczek retires effective immediately
A reliable source close to The Racquetball Blog has informed us that Jack Huczek is retiring effective immediately and he will not be present in Fullerton for the Ektelon National Singles Championships. A check of the entrants for that event reveals that Huczek is not among them.
More details are to come, so we're not sure if this means Huczek's retiring completely from racquetball, including playing for the US Team. If so, that would have significant implications for the US Team's chances at this year's Pan Am Games.
The Racquetball Blog will bring more details of this development as they become available.
Interesting. Hope it's not true!
Ektelon has not released the official announcement yet, but other sources have. Sudsy has signed a contract to play with and promote the Ektelon brand.
Cool news! Can't wait to hear what his plans are, as far as the IRT goes. This along with Ruben making a comeback on tour should be interesting. Seems like Ektelon has got both ends of the spectrum under contracts now, with not many in between, haha.

We have a small club here with about 20 people in league right now and I wanted to put together a little Saturday morning tournament. On short notice I have 8 people for sure, probably 10 will play. We have 2 courts, so I will probably do a 2 group round robin style, with the same place finishers of each group playing each other for the finals. Anyway, there is no money involved, but I want to put together some fun/funny prizes for people. Maybe a grab bag style where they pic a wrapped prize. I have some real things to give away like tubes of balls, etc, but then maybe a box of broken balls, some worn out gloves, etc. Any ideas on other prizes as well as categories? Lowest point total, last place, winner, most points, biggest complainer, etc, etc. Ideas anyone? I don't want to announce the categories ahead of time, so they don't intentionally try to win them.
I'm sitting here trying to prep my ipod for the upcoming tournament season and staring at iTunes trying to think of songs and coming up with nothing. What songs do you listen to that get you pumped up to play?
How many of you have that "one" player, or even type of player that you just can't beat? I have been going through league and our little tournaments with no problems at all over the last 9 months, except,,,, for this one guy. The last little end of league tournament we had was double elimination and we played it over a couple week period, I breezed through the bracket with zero losses and waited for the winner to come out of the loser's bracket and it was "that" guy. He had to beat me twice, and he did, with 2 days in between each match. I just can't figure him out. Other players that I beat with ease, crush him, but not me. I play him tonight for league again, there's not much on the line, but I can't stop thinking about the match today. I usually go into a match not thinking at all, just go play my game, size up how the other guy is playing as we go, and beat them. It's almost like this guy has beat me in my head before we even play. He's a nice guy, I like him, and he's not a power player or anything, just a super accurate dinker.
This is kinda silly, but oh well. I'm 35 and hadn't played racquetball til this last October since I was in highschool, but started playing a lot since I started back up. I really have played a lot, trying to play 4-5 days a week and as many tournaments as I could easily get to from where I live (not many options). Anyway, I got a sponsorship from Ektelon for this year and it's got me sort of excited. It's not much, it's the lower level sponsorship, but it's a start. I was planning on staying with Ektelon for equipment anyway, so that's not a huge deal. But for some reason it's lit a spark under me to hit the gym for training even harder for tournaments this coming season. Sometimes I guess that it's not so important what the reason is to get excited about something, but more so that there is something that can get you excited and spark you.
About 2-3yrs ago is when this all started. While playing golf, about the 11th hole or so, on my right hand I would notice some pain, then mild swelling on the top. It would go away a few days later, and I didn't think much of it. After a 15yr break from racquetball, I got back into it this last October full steam, playing 5 nights a week since then. About a month ago, beginning of Jan. I started to notice that pain and bump on my hand again. Went to see the Doc, he thought it was probably a Cyst, which I guess are pretty common on hands, most of the pain and visual bump is close to my wrist, straight back from my thumb and index finger. So, he sent me to get a MRI, after 1 1/2hrs in that machine on Monday I got the results today. 3 Cysts, and a good sized bone fragment that is loose in there. I was referred to a hand specialist, the soonest he can see me is March 15th. After all of that babbling, how many of you have had hand injuries that were similar, and had surgery? Is it something I should worry about, meaning that I may not be able to play much in the future (I'm 35).

I have been playing racquetball for quite some time, but mostly for fun, or league play. I will be playing in my first sanctioned tournament at the end of month. My main question is that (assuming I win a match) winners will be reffing the next match on that court. I understand and know the rules, but mainly playing for fun or league, we rarely called penalty hinders, just general hinders. When playing in B,C bracket of a tournament should I be somewhat easy on the penalty hinders, or call them as I would guess a pro match would be called? I may have more questions as we go along with this, but I will start with this for now. Just so I don't get big responses on rules, I have been playing B level for about 20yrs, just have never entered tournaments with reffing as strange as that may sound.
Thanks
I realize this post should be in the Racquetball Talk section. I'm new, sorry!
