12th Annual Lou Bradley Memorial Pro-Am!
Sun Prairie Wisconsin
Oct 16-18th 2009

"Paul Krueger"
Entry fees for Wisconsin's only IRT stop have decreased from last year and $5 of each entry fee will go to the Lou Bradley Scholarship Fund.

Enjoy a free water bottle; free beer Friday and Saturday night from Wisconsin Distributors; two soda tickets; Friday dinner from Jimmy John's; Saturday lunch from Uno's; Saturday dinner from JB's Italian Grille; Saturday and Sunday morning snacks, OJ and coffee; great competition; and FREE viewing of some of the best players in the world.

The Lou is a tribute to Lou Bradley, who was the first member of the PAC 33 years ago along with her husband Chet (still a member). Lou ran the racquetball program here at the club for many years and was loved by staff and members. Lou has an annual Wisconsin sportsmanship award named in her honor and another of her legacies, Team Racquetball, is still going strong at the PAC.

Don't miss this tourney as it is one of the best and most fun tourneys in the area. Enjoy the competition and camaraderie of The Lou. Pound on the glass to cheer on your favorite player in the pro semis and finals, then mingle with the pro players at The Lost Court Saturday night! Be prepared to play early and/or late and enjoy a full weekend in Sun Prairie, less than 10 minutes from Madison. Thanks to primary donors Phil Sussek and Bruce Thompson, as well as primary sponsor Chris Sussek for their generosity. Also, contact McGovern’s or the Holiday Inn for discounted hotel rates for players.

Hope to see you here for this fantastic tournament!

I've been sitting on my thoughts for a week now and wanted to share them because they are counter to many of the opinions here so far.

My position is that to increase value to major sponsors (Verizon/Motorola for example), They need MASSIVE distribution/exposure for their advertising investments and they can get this if the IRT Network is FREE.

Sorry, not enough humans are coming to the actual games themselves to make the sponsorship as attractive as it could be.

Lucky for me, I don't know the ownership or politics of who owns IRTNetwork.com; so I approach this with a view of a person who wants to help racquetball to thrive with the largest impact & profit possible.

THE PROPOSAL:

The IRTNetwork.com licensed EXCLUSIVE rights to carry IRT games should come with requirement that they deliver the bulk of their services for FREE to the market. If this means the IRT pays the IRTNetwork base wholesale costs to produce and distribute the shows, so be it.

Then, if the HUGELY installed base of FREE users want access to "PREMIUM" level features, such as the discussed camera viewing angles, private interviews with the pro's that go more in depth, etc... then this is where the IRT Network can make some profit for their risk. I'd propose that the PREMIUM fees = the same as what they are going to charge normal members right now to become a regular member.

Why this model works:

IRTNetwork will see rampant adoption if they are FREE. They will NOT see massive adoption and this project is doomed to fail if it becomes a fee-based only service.

Negrete gets to say to a sponsor, "AND for this level of sponsorship, you also get your brand exposed to XX,XXX members who watch the games live on their computers and home networks." Think about how Jimmy Fallon pimps out his "Bud Light" Green room or how America's Got Talent pimps out their "Orville Redenbacher Popcorn" green room. Same concept of selling access to lots more eyeballs than the actual human attendance in person at the events.

The value to the PRIMARY sponsors of IRT events EXCEEDS the total cash collectible from the small minion of us loyal fans who will really pony up a few bucks to pay per view it. Someone here has to know I'm right about this.

I'm all about business and profit here and if the IRT wants to maximize profit and exposure; then giving away IRTNetwork's services to the public for free helps to maximize exposure while bundling it up for your sponsors adds significant value, helps close the sales faster and is more tangible than the 'hope' that enough individuals will find value in it to pay for it.

Respectfully submitted...

Your thoughts?
Last night I was starting my drive or Z serve from the farthest left corner of the service zone. I was going to either send it down the line on the farthest right side of the court, jam drive serve down the center of the court or Z serve it.

My opponent stopped me and said it was illegal to serve 3' to the far left or right within the service zone. I agreed to not serve in that zone, but challenged his call and said I'd prove it today.

I looked up rule 3.6:

http://www.racqmag.com/Rulebook/tabid/839/RuleID/19/Default.aspx

"Rule 3.6 - Drive Service Zones"
There is a drive serve line 3 feet from each side wall in the service zone. Viewed one at a time, each drive serve line divides the service zone into a 3-foot and a 17-foot section. The player may drive serve between the body and the side wall nearest to where the service motion began only if the player, the racquet, and ball (until it is struck) starts and remains outside of that 3-foot drive service zone until the served ball crosses the short line. A drive serve involving "any continuous movement" (see Rule 3.3 Manner, beginning in one 3-foot drive service zone and continuing into the opposite 3-foot drive service zone, is a fault serve.

(a) The drive serve zones are not observed for cross-court drive serves, the hard-Z, soft-Z, lob or half-lob serves.

(b) The 3-foot line is part of the 3-foot zone and defines a plane that, if broken, is an infraction. (see Rule 3.9g)

I've read the above 10 times. I still don't get it.

Can I serve anything I want from the far left zone of the service box or not?

Or, are there only specific types of serves that are legal from that 3' box on either side of the service zone?

Is this a hinder:

We're in the middle of a rally.

I'm player A.

Player B just hit the ball to the front wall.

Ball is returning to me and now it's my turn to hit the ball. I'm coming in very close to Player B to return my ball and I sense I can take it without hitting him. Player B freaks out and thinks he's about to get hit and calls a hinder about 500 miliseconds after my racquet contacts the ball and heads up to the front wall. A second later the rally is over and I should have won the point, but Player B wants to call a hinder ball to play it over.

Who is right?

It's my understanding that only the person taking the ball can call a hinder..otherwise, Player B will be crying hinder every time they feel they are in an unsafe situation.

Who is right?

Playing Racquetball doubles last night I was extending/reaching while jumping full speed to return a shot that ended up with me crashing into a concrete wall with my shoulder paying the price.

Xrays show I have Acromioclavicular Joint (ACJ) subluxation with 2 of the 3 ligaments torn.

Anyone else ever have this injury and what should I expect for a typical recovery time?

I wasn't at Houston, but I read on:
http://www.r2sports.com/tourney/home.asp?TID=2465

That there was "special videos to recognize Hall of Fame members and the last 25 years in Houston" played at the Grand Gala.

Ok, WHO did the video's and WHERE are they online?

If someone went to all the effort to put them together, it'd be great to see them online for those of us who couldn't attend.

Anyone know?

From Paul in Sun Prairie, WI:

"Paul Krueger, PAC"
I just wanted to remind everybody about a bunch of events we have coming to the Prairie Athletic Club in the near future. We will be hosting several tourneys in 2008, including the Badger State Games, June 27-28; our Summer Open, Aug. 15-17; The Lou Bradley Pro-Am, Oct. 17-19 (the week before the U.S. Open); and State Doubles on November 14-16. We will start our fall leagues on September 2, the day after Labor Day. Don’t forget that we have spring and summer leagues still going and youth instructionals as well. Mark your calendars!

We’ll have Fran Davis and possibly Jason Mannino around to help build your racquetball dream house on June 6-8. Check Fran’s web site at www.frandavisracquetball.com for more info or to sign up.

Also, three PAC players are going to play in the Junior Nationals and WRA Junior Racquetball Coordinator Jeff Benson is looking for sponsors to help these kids compete at the national level. If you would have any interest in helping out, contact Jeff or let me know and I’ll pass along any information to him.

Have a great summer and look forward to seeing you at the PAC later this summer and fall for some great racquetball action!

Paul Krueger
PAC Sports Coordinator

I had a Scouts bike ride that I lead on that Saturday and a Triathlon I was suppose to compete in on that Sunday... but may cancel both to be in at this camp. Haven't had a "Fran" tune up since 2001.
