Disclaimer: I don't claim to be the best action photographer and these pictures prove that fact.
I did my best to capture some in-play shots, but didn't do so well.
Here are a few pics from Saturday's shootout. Hopefully eastcoast will have more photos soon to throw up in here.
Enjoy!

It's all been done before, right? There's a movie for virtually every sport known to man, however, I can't think of one that revolves around racquetball (other than making small cameo appearances in films - as discussed in this thread http://meetandplay.com/Forum/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=1724 - insert hyperlink option is grayed out....not sure why). I digress.....my question is....are there any writers/ script writers in the house? I write on the side (not as much as I'd like to, but I do short stories and have a novel in the works). I'd love to construct a film script around rball, but I fear it would end up being a movie like "Side Out" (THE best volleyball movie ever!). Although I like that movie, I think niche sports such as volleyball and rball have a limited audience. Negativitiy aside, I think an rball movie can be done.
Anyone down to throw out some ideas....maybe get something in the works?
On the home page for this site there is a blurb about what we can do to get this game out in the public eye, on TV, whatever...just get heads interested.
I don't know if this would ever fly because it is a bit "gimmicky", but the idea came from something called "starlight bowling". Bowlers and drinkers alike should be familiar with this. The alley lights go down, black lights fire up and suddenly you're back in the 70s with pink, yellow and green glow-in-the-dark bowling balls and bright white pins to throw them at.
Can something like this be done with racquetball? My first reservation about this idea is the potential for injury. But imagine an indoor court with glowing white walls, a bright green or purple ball, players in bright clothes holding crazy racquets with intense white strings and whatever color blacklight tape around racquet head they like.
Not sure how well this idea would fly, but it might spark interest here or there.
Thoughts???

Hey!
I'm posting this up for my man Raul (eastcoast). Raul is the tournament director for this Pro Kennex Outdoor Racquetball Series Event.
Check the flyer out for dates, times, event details and contact information.
Hope to see a lot of heads out on August 12th in Hartford CT!
Kill it,
G
It's been extremely slow here at work today and I've been in and out of most of these threads all morning. I'm so amped up that I just want to leave and play ball!
I've been thinking about what I can do to participate and ignite a flame under the ballers in the CT area. I have a feeling there is a huge amount of untapped potential here in Connecticut and I want unearth it!
This site is responsible for my finding a new group players and friends who enjoy the sport as much as I do and now I want to help in the advancement of the sport not only in CT but wherever I can reach.
Currently, I know of a few places where I can hang flyers (I'm going to design a flyer that I'd like to put up for criticism...hope to have it done within the next two weeks). There are a bunch of gyms that friends of mine belong to and I get them to ask if they can put up rball ads/ flyers.
Where I live, there are courts all over the place for tenants to use. What kills me is that NO ONE TAKES ADVANTAGE OF THEM!!! I had a flyer up for a few months just looking for people to play with and I didn't get one response. Sad. I may try and see just how many courts there are in the development (it's like condo heaven, I swear!) and rally as many heads as I can. There have to be some serious players in my area!!
Side note...yesterday before I left work I was BS'ing with one of the doctor's here at the hospital. We started talking about eating and health and working out and I asked him if he played racquetball. I wish I had a picture of his face when I asked. Before he answered, he said to me "you'll never know how much that question pains me and makes me feel good at the same time!" He went on to explain that he used to be an avid player a few years back, but had to stop because HE COULDN'T FIND ANYONE TO PLAY WITH!. He also stopped playing due to a knee injury and pulled hamstring, but he was more bummed about the lack of players. He said in all his years not a soul asked HIM once if he played. He looked like a child about to tear into Christmas gifts when I asked him. He's interested in playing and I can't wait to get him out on the court....I'll get to see what a doctor is really made of! AHAHAHA!
Let's get this thing going and do it right! The world needs something other than Texas Hold 'Em to keep their attention!
Thanks for listening!

I think I just found my new favorite game - OUTDOOR 3WALL!!!!!!! I played yesterday afternoon with Raul (eastcoast) out in Manchester CT. I think he was taking it easy on me! I had a great time. There's nothing like being outside on a gorgeous day and playing ball!! Beats the hell out of a stuffy indoor court that we'll all be returning to in a few months.
If anyone is in or around the CT area, Raul has a few upcoming tournaments coming (specific dates are listed
here). I plan to be at most if not all of these!
I praise the racquetball gods that I found this site and some cool people who are as passionate about playing and having fun as I am! Good stuff!!
Keep it low,
G
Saturday morning, after a rough night at a buddy's stag, I met with a regular on this site, Raul, up in Hartford CT to play some outdoor ball. I had no idea what I was in for, I only knew there would be a decent amount of players there.
Everyone turned out to be super cool! I felt like a fish out of water because until that morning I've only played indoor singles and cut throat games. I'm not a big fan of doubles, but ended up appreciating that game a lot more when we finished. Saturday was one wall, outdoor and we mixed up some singles, doubles and cut throat games. I must have launched at least 8 balls over the damn wall because I'm used to have four walls around me (must buy a bucket of balls tomorrow during my break!). For the first hour I was trying to adjust to being outside and aiming at one wall which is a lot harder than it sounds. It took about 5 or 6 games before I felt semi-adjusted, but it was a lot of fun all around.
I hadn't played in two months because I've had such a hard time finding partners to play with. Today I'm a mess of tight and sore muscles, but totally ready to go again!
Raul, if you're reading this, can't wait for some indoor tomorrow at LA Fitness!! Should be a blast! Thanks again for the intro to the outdoor world! I look forward to improving my outdoor skills over the summer months.
G
Don't mind my crying here, but I haven't played rball in a good two months. NOT HAPPY!!! Maybe I'm not looking in the right places for fellow players.
Has anyone new in the CT area logged in here yet??? I'm just looking for a game. I don't care if you have only one arm and want to play!!! That's all you really need!
What kills me is that we have free courts at my apartment complex that NO ONE is ever in!! I even put up signs for possible league formations or just to play....no responses.
Oh well....I'm just sending out the signal again.....if you're in the Hartford CT area.....let's play!!
Later,
G
This is just a random question....
While knocking the ol' blue ball around today, by myself, because there's no one in my area who plays rball, I was thinking about using my left hand to serve and return and all that good stuff. If you're playing, can switch hands at will? My guess is probably not if you have to wear a teather during league/ tourney play.
Just curious if anyone has tried this. Thought it might be a good skill to have.
Forgive my slight retardation on this matter, but I've never entered a tournament before. How the hell do you know if you're an A, B or C level player? What's the scale for that? I'm going to assume that I'm a C because I've only played a handful of people at different skill levels and can hold my own fairly well.....but by no means would I say my skills are "advanced". I'd hate to spend the money (gas and event fees) and not know what I'm walking into, but on the other hand the money might be worth the experience.
Just curious.....is anyone going to this Fishkill NY tournament?? http://www.fishkillallsport.com/images%2015/springfling.pdf
Does anyone have information on upcoming rball tournaments in the CT area?
I've Googled every possible combination of search words for rball tournaments in CT and have come up empty handed. There was mention of a Hartford open, but I can't find info on that anywhere.
If you know of any upcoming events, please post the info in here! I'd very much appreciate it!
I just posted my cry for help in the Northeast Regional forum....so this is my second official post.
Just looking for some CT residents who play the best game on earth to get some games together. I've been playing for about two years now, at an intermediate skill level and can play whenever!
What kills me is that the Connecticut Racquetball Association's contact is right here in the town I currently live in....yet....NO ONE AROUND HERE PLAYS!!! Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places. And if I am....I hope you players that are hiding find me in here!
Live for the kill!
G
First post here....
I just moved back to CT from PA after three years of being away from my home state. If not for moving to PA I would have never started playing racquetball. This is the most exciting and energizing sport I've ever played and now that I'm back in CT, I can't find a game to save my life!
I turned one of my friends onto the game and he's getting better, but I fear my skill level is declining from playing the same person week after week (and only once a week due to his new child!).
So, CT, I'm callin' out here......if you're in the Cromwell/ Middletown/ Wallingford/ Meriden area......LOOK ME UP!! There's a completely free court at my apartment complex (it's not the best kept court, but it works!). I'm at an intermediate skill level and am looking for a regular game.
Never not,
Gary
