Can someone please explain to me how this works and why there is such a difference in racquet weights?
I'll use Head racquets as an example
Black Widow unstrung 160g
strung 187.1g
Difference of 27.1g
Scorpion unstrung 170g
strung 198.8g
Difference of 28.8g
Cobra unstrung 180g
strung 206.3g
Difference of 26.3g
What is confusing is that while the differance are small I was under the impression that they used the same strung as well as the same length of string and yet you would think the strung weight would be similar in each racquet…??
Any idea's
racquetworld.com has an add up for the NEW Head Racquets…
and in true Head fashion the names are rather comical…..
Black Widow (160g)
Scorpion (170g)
Cobra (180g)
The only thing that alarms me is that they are showing that both the 160 and 170g racquets are more balanced this year then in years in the past which could cause a bit of a learning curve if your like me and love the head heavy racquets…..
Haven't posted this in a while, figured it was time to start it up again……
Played dbls a couple days ago and hit a player while shooting a cross court. The player who was hit got bent out of shape because they got hit and wanted to know why I was shooting a reverse pinch? When I told them it was going cross court there answer killed me… They told me that I was shooting a reverse pinch…. I guess they know what I'm shooting more then I know
We have a player at our club who is looking to (wait for it) cryogenically freeze his racquets…. Seems he really likes them and doesn't want them to break so if he freezes them then the molecules in the racquet will slow down thus extending his racquets life.
And last…..
Got jammed up and had to hit a high Z to keep the ball in play. The ball went front wall, side wall, bounce, hit other side wall and landed on opponents head….. My opponent calls screen and wants a replay because they claim they never saw the ball, so it's not fair that they couldn't get into a better position...
This question comes up a lot at our club.
In singles or double people are calling a screen serve when a person hits a drive Z.
I question if it can be called a screen because a person can see the ball hit the front and side wall's and can track it as it comes into the back court.
But some players call screen because at some point the balls path will pass the server and they feel that since they can't see the ball 100% it's a screen regardless of how close it is to the server.
I'm left handed and I hit a drive Z from the right side of the service box (heels on drive serve line) to the back left corner.
The balls path can be seen all the way from start to finish but I'll get players calling screen because they can't track the ball once it parallel to me.
Keep in mind that I don't come out of the box till the ball is past me.
So what's the call
Wondering if anyone has experienced this or maybe know's a remedy.?
For the last few weeks the day after playing I'm pretty much hobbled by nagging heel pain in my foot.
I'm not sure if it's just poor footwork or something serious that needs to be looked into.
The only way to describe it is it's like a muscle cramp in my heel that runs up about 4-6 inches in my ankle.
I can elevate the pain my slightly bending my leg and pointing my toes up and stretching out my heel area.
I did have a friend tell me that it's my calf muscle and it's pulling all the tendon's in my heal tight and I should focus on that, rather then a heel issue.
Any help would be great.
And just to add, I usually wear Hi-tec shoes the M550 Series
I know Kane is currently making history like no other player in any sport ever has but I have to say it's getting boring watching him just manhandle the rest of the IRT.
They brought this stat up at the Stockton Pro Am and it really shows the large margin between Kane's game and the rest of the tour
Now keep in mind Kane played 4 matches against 4 professional players
and the final score was…
Kane scored 139 points (4 of these games Kane's opponets scored 0 points)
While his opponents scored a combined 36 points (21 of those were scored by Alvi alone in the finals)
I hate to say this but someone has to figure out a way to beat Kane or it's just gonna get worse….
So I was looking at the Pro draw for the 2012 Stockton Pro‐Am and I'm totally floored on a match that could happen…..
John Scott is the # 17 seed in the draw…
If he plays 2 matches and wins…… Wait for it
John will face KANE in the round of 16's.
Please, PLease, Please, find a way to make this happen……
Oh and if it does could we please have Sudsy commentating on the match..

I'mm be in the Ft. Hood Killeen Texas area for 3 weeks starting Monday and I'm looking for a place to play while I'm there for work.
I'm a solid A (with moments of Open / Pro level) player
Heading to Ft. Hood / Killeen Texas for work Monday and I'm looking for a good place to get some playing in since I'll be there for 3 weeks.
Any help would be great.
We have a guy we play with who is doing demo's on just about every racquet he can. I set up a demo with him to try out some of the Head racquets and he had a few he really liked and he wanted to know how each one differed from the other.
I went on line and printed up some spec's and what I found odd was that there isn't any consistency in the added weight when you string a racquet.
Here's an example
Head Mean Streak Unstrung 175g Strung 195g (20g difference)
Head Royal Flush Unstrung 170g Strung 188g (18g difference)
Head Tap Out Unstrung 175g Strung 190g (15g difference)
Now all 3 of them are strung with Mega Blast 16..
Anyone know why this is?
Ok so we have limited places to play racquetball here in Hawaii so we are very protective of our courts and right now it looks like we are going to loose one unless we can get some help.
There is a 24hr Fitness in Honolulu that used to have 10 courts at one time but do to the economy the facility did a renovation and now there is only 1 court left. What makes this court so valuable is that since 24hr Fitness never closes it allows players to have a facility they can go to at any time day or night to get some playing in (we just played last night till 1am).
Currently the facility is getting ready to once again do another renovation and the rumor is that this last court is slotted to be removed.
We've tried contacting the club directly to try and get an answer but we never seem to hear the same story twice, once its gone, next it's going to be refinished, or nothing is in the plans. We did contact the district manager and his claim is that even he is being kept in the dark (which is odd that a district manager wouldn't have an idea what's going on).
We set up a petition with over 150 signatures plus a full endorsement from Head, Ektelon and E-Force to try and keep the court.
Our next venture is we are going to set up an event where we keep the court in constant use (either playing, drilling etc) for a 24hr period
24hrs at 24hrs….
I'm hoping someone may also have some information as to who we can contact at either 24hr or with Ektelon (Ektelon has an agreement with 24hr) to try and get some answers about what the plans are as well and possibly getting some help from a higher up…
Any suggestions would be great….
Ok who wins these matches
It's each player in there prime

Kane vs. Egan Inoue
Pre Suspension Kane vs. Post Suspension Kane
and lastly

where's the stream for the NYC tournament?
Please, Please, Please tell me somebody has something in the works for what's about to happen tomorrow…..
Please, Please, Please tell me that a major publication (ESPN, Sports Illustrated, HBO Sports, something) is working a story on what happens tomorrow….
What's tomorrow you ask…….
Tomorrow is the start of the Cactus Salon NYC Pro / Am.
How HUGE is this for our sport….
Legendary player Ruben Gonzalez who is in the process of coming to an end of an amazing career is playing in the event.
Sudsy Monchik one of the Top 5 players to ever play the game is making his return (much better then calling it a comeback) to racquetball will be playing in the event..
Kane Waslenchuk who's on a 134 MATCH winning streak, who hasn't lost an event in 3 years will be playing in the event….
If someone doesn't think there's a major sports story there then I just flat give up…...
Ok here's the set up.
Playing dbls last night.
Team A is serving both players are right handed
Team B (my team) is a lefty and righty..I'm the left handed player and was playing my forehand side…
Team A's 1st server is "working" on a new serve a drive Z hit using a backhand swing (they are facing the left wall)
Once the ball hits the front wall then the right side wall I move into a position to shoot a reverse pinch into the front right corner using a back hand stroke and hit the 1st server in the left side because they move into a position to cover the down the line shot they thought I was going to shoot.
The server basically hit the serve then slid back and to the left to cover the straight in shot…
So then the argument starts….
According to the server they don't have to give me the reverse pinch (which I agree with) they only have to give me the straight in and the cross shot's (again I agree)
and they felt since they gave me those I have to shot those shots….
My argument was that they slid into my shot and I never saw them till it was too late and there isn't any "mandatory" shots I'm free to shoot what I want I just have to make sure I'm not going to hurt anyone (again if they hadn't move into the shot they wouldn't have been hit)
There counter argument was again they gave me the lines to shoot straight in and the cross and they don't have to give me the cross (again I agree with that) and I have to shot those shots…
Now in there defense me hitting a backhand reverse pinch wasn't the best choice but it was just the normal Monday crowd and not anything serious and I try my best to hold if I'm going to hit someone.
Now in my defense the player serving has a tendency to never watch what is going on behind them (they never saw my swing) and there are a lot of time where during a rally players are forced to shoot around them because of this…
I'd like to hear some feed back on this..
I'll post this here becuase it happened while flying back to Oahu from Maui after playing in state doubles....
So the plane is getting ready to taxi for take off and and while the flight attendent passed by me she asked me to "Please return my magazine to the seat back pouch till the plane takes off"........
What...?? Are you kidding me... My reading an article will have some impact on how well the plane lifts off the ground..? Is my page turning causing a distraction to the flight crew...??
I've heard it all now....
Ok here's my question…
I have a racquet with Ashaway Super Kill Xl in it (love it) I also have another racquet with stock mega blast.
I tend to hit a bit high of the sweet spot and I'm totally a power player but when I play with my racquet with the Mega Blast I'm forced to hit pretty much dead on the sweet spot in order to generate the power I get from my other racquet with the Ashaway Super Kill XL in it.
It's the same for control as well, it I don't change my swing shots I can hit in my sleep just don't happen.
I was wondering if anyone else has ever had this happen and I'm also curious why this happens.
Just to add some back up info I'm currently using the Head Submission.
Both racquets are at 34-35 lbsand I've changed my grips over to Taci Max IRT
So basically my racquets are copies of each other other then the string.
So I've watched Ben get a double technical foul, I've watched Rocky get a technical foul so it doesn't look like he scored zero and I have to say I think the current way the rule is being used is a bit silly….
If you look at other sports, lets say basketball if a player is given a technical the other team is awarded a free throw which basically means the infraction benefits one team while penalizing the other.
How silly would it be if the NBA took a point from one team….come on now
In racquetball if a player is assessed a technical, only the player who commits the foul is penalized while the other player receives nothing, and what makes this ever harder to understand is when a player purposely commits an act and is assessed a technical for the lone purpose of saving face when losing a match…..I just don't get it.
I think the concept of the technical was put into place as a way for a referee to stop on court antics before things get out of hand but currently it seems that since the only penalty is placed on one player and there isn't any positive reward for the other player it's not much of a penalty at all….
I think the rule should be changed as follows
If a both players have scored a minimum of 1 point:
When a player commits an act the 1st time where the referee feels that a Technical Foul is needed a player is given a singular warning.
The warning once issued lasts for the duration of the match.
If a player then commits a 2nd infraction where a referee feels a Technical Foul is needed a point is awarded to the other player.
If one player has yet to score a minimum of 1 point:
If a player has no points and commits their 1st infraction where a referee feels a Technical Foul is needed they are given a warning, which again once issued lasts for the remaining duration of the match.
If a player then commits a 2nd infraction where a referee feels a Technical Foul is needed and that player still has yet to score a point, then that player will be forfeited the current game.
I really think that if a technical is needed than the punishment needs to be something more then taking a point for one player while prolonging the match or being used to adjust the score so as to save face.
