Big Rod and the gang, thanks for the good time. Didn't know what to expect or if I would even get in a good game while in Waikiki, but what a good time. Thanks to Big Rod, Matt, Scott, Jerome and the locals at Fort Derussy for the workout.......and boy did I get a workout. Now I see why Matt and Rod are so tough to beat on their home courts. What a learning experience, I only wish I could play there a lot more. What an incredible unique and fun game those courts make.
Thanks again for making it happen Rod, I really appreciated how accommodating you guys all were. Can't wait to get back there and play some more. Hope to be back soon and will look forward to your next big event. Anyone thinking of giving Fort Derussy a try would be crazy not too. Just don't expect to push Rod and Matt around the court, they're the real deal. Mahalo, Kevin
Just wanted to say thanks to all for the hospitality and generosity showed by many in Florida this past weekend. It was a great event, but made even better by the locals. Vic and Patty were particularly generous with their home to a few of us from California. It's this kind of help which makes it possible for many to travel to new places to meet and play in these events. I was told that there may be as many as 30 players coming from Florida for the 2009 Nationals in Huntington Beach. I think us locals here in Orange County should consider opening up our homes to accommodate some of those looking to save on housing and make the trip possible.
Anyhow, I wish more of you would have been able to experience the event, the local people, food and fun. Outdoor racquetball is truly the "grass roots" of racquetball. These kind of events in new locations open up the world to the players who don't know what's out there. I am guessing that Tropical Park will be buzzing for quite some time, due to the efforts of those who hosted this event. So thanks for the time and effort you made, and be assured you have opened up the racquetball world to those there at Tropical Park. Whether they chose to travel outside their racquetball world or not, you have definitely changed there outlook and perspective; as you have mine.
I'm sure we will see many new players here in Hunting Beach this coming year, due to events just like this. I encourage those who are considering going to Florida or other new places, to just do it. Vic and Patty, thanks again for all that you did for me and all the others. Keep in touch and I have a room for you or whomever come July 2009.
Kevin
Hey Vic or Angel, or anyone who would like to answer this question. Us CALI guys are wondering if there are any other rules that we should be aware of for the tournament? Like what's the rule on where your partner can stand while you are serving? How close can you get to the front wall when you hit your serve? Or how far back can you hit your serve from. I don't see any service boxes and only the one line. I don't want to assume anything.........thanks.
Hey Everyone,
Just checking to see which local SoCal players are going to make the trip to Florida in November for the outdoor event?
