Zonka alone could have beat the pat defense........peace
I agree with Scootz that money draws the pros and many others.
I also believe you can have the biggest jackpot of all time in a givin event, but if the players who have proved themselves in many courts.............I mean winning in home-town,home court advantage situations,AWAY from a players comfort zone-these are the greatest teams.imho
The player or team who consistantly finishes strong in most events are the true "one's to beat" imho
I don't believe a higher dollar amount would have changed the WOR Championship Outcome, which still has the highest combined official/private sponsorship payout in outdoor history for the doubles champs.
However,I will totally agree with you Scoots,if you are saying the WOR Championships are the World's best because of the highest payout to the SO Cal team after our Championship.
I believe there are several solid teams that are a threat on any court to take 1st place...........anywhere.........but So Cal still has my heart, and we still have not had a team threaten our champion's at our courts.
Scootz......I appreciate your kind words on my work ethic, and you are a great organizer for this event in Hawaii. It is my pleasure giving to this event, and originally wasn't planning to play. Scootz has it pumped up,so it sounds like a blast,in a great venue{best home-court-advantage.imho.} so taken money from the locals is never easy, and downright difficult.
Scootz,I am glad you Peter, and the boys are pumping this event.you guys are tough to beat, and always have great competition in Hawaii. The future GALACTIC CHAMPIONS OF THE UNIVERSE#INFINITY will surley arise from the ashes of this brawl.
I so hope round robin can be implimented,as the cost, time, distance, rare stigma associated with this event calls for everybody having fun on the courts.not the bench......I know................... only two courts.but most folks traveling will get beat first round ..not fun........
I know where all the boys hearts are,and hope some sort of allowance for the travelers regarding early exits, and a ruined Hawaiin experience won't be a factor.......I think round robin{if possible}great fun,and reduces the effect of a "draw" also.
Well ,its nice chattin with ya all,but gotta hit the sack..real tired,so please overlook any spelling or hurtful statements.........lets have some fun,and help this community grow as a big happy family.....thanks again Scootz, and GOD bless our Country......peace,rob
I hear some decent bangers showed up and I missed a nice event, won by Jesus squared over Allen/Rick...........Peters/Bill T went undefeated in RR but lost to Allen/Rick in one semi.........
Zues/Jesus beat Paul/Micky in the other semi........
good teams in the semi's,and a 9 team day with great weather.....NICE!!!!!!!
I am hoping my "bones quit aching in the am,or I will have to find other work{doubtful}..........anyway,miss you all,and keep bangin that lil red thing,or whatever color..........I always just trained my eye on my opponents back.............lol JUST KIDDING............PEACE,and GOD Bless our Troops, and their Familys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! rob
An official thanks, and "over and out"
I could write forever on my many current thoughts.......... I hope I keep it short.
I won't thank the many individuals I owe my gratitude and admiration,as I hope you know who you are..........
This year has been the best year of RB competition in my carreer, and the resulting finishes rewarding, and unlikely to be matched again by myself and any partner(s).
I am choosing to put a close on RB competition,as given my age,wear/tear and other considerations,I wish for my memories to have the best finish as has just been accomplished.
Winning was always on my mind, and thus apologies are a natural obligation to all,as I am sure winning is not the ultimate prospective over-all. Given that this goal was #1 for me ,I need forgiveness for shortcomings in most other areas, for outlooks, and actions as a result of a hyper-competitive-attitude. I am sure most others have a better balance, and perhaps would have been a better steward in my shoes.
I hope to live every blessed minute of the breath God allows me,to improve and be a better person each day.
Concerning RB........... all folks in this sport are so very special..........again,no names for reasons very personal. I wish it did not take retiring from the sport to give me a more balanced outlook of the human aspect, and how fragile the spirit of every individual is. I am greatful to have been a part of a wonderful,world-wide,growing sport, and the family's of all involved are truely resiliant.
All my partners were the best, and the same for the competitors.life is short.
( Whoever partners with Rocky will be fortunate to say the least,as he has become so absolutley great in doubles, that only those at the recent champoionships can realize. I am greatful to have been involved in our teamwork,as we worked through many hurdles to "gel" like I have not experienced before. Years of hardwork, battles, and "critical thinking"lol.................
Anyway, thanks to all of you in every aspect of the sport..............I am greatful for everything...and thank you all for a truely super great many, many years...........peace,love,and truth.rh
2007 Sem-Final between Rocky Carson/Robert Hoff vs Josh Tucker/Son N.
I didn't spot any speacial mention on the WOR site of the "off-the -charts-high-level-play and intensity"
Gosh folks...........by God's grace this man has competed in seemingly endless high-end sporting contests in several different sports, and have experienced heart-breaker-losses as well as unforgettable wins.....Wrestled/Footballed since 7 years old through college, and competed with animal/machines.-----------wrestling machines with skin from the midwest, and won many nice titles, along with getting throttled now and then...lol
However,it was the journey of fighting fear, rejection, pride, and personal problems, while trying to find a safe place in a brutal world, filled with "boobytraps"------------that helped create the person I am today...naturally much room for growth......
HOWEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OUR SEMI-FINAL on SUNDAY,JULY 12th at 12 noon had to be heard on Mars!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In MY LIFE NEVER have I enjoyed better competition, better teamwork, better clutch points,............ off-the friggin planet-energized ball!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From inside the match, there simply could not have been a better match!!!!!!!!!!! EVER!!!!!!!!!!!! All FOUR PLayers playing with every fiber of their being!!!!!!! It CANNOT get better for this man!!!!!!!!!!!!
JT/SON had been in a sweet, consistent zone for months, usually beatin RC/Myself and most everyone else in brutal practice matches, with lots riding on the outcome. Josh/I teamed before as did Son/RC,so there you have another dynamic.
There were 4 top teams who were very, very serious threats in this Championship.....the guys who have been battling here know who they are. And the entire draw was so talented that any team could be a "spoiler" IMHO
I hope others felt what I felt in that unforgettable match, because there are no words that can come close.I have worked so very hard to gel with RC,and we seemed to really hande the small and middle courts after the 1st year together, but lacked killer instinct on the larger courts, and suffered inconsistencies..even going into this tourny!!!!!!
Can you imagine receiving 95% of the serves and having the pressure of needing to return so solid as not to have the ball anywhere near Josh Tucker's forehand? Hit the wrong return inside the court to Josh, and no need to follow the ball...POINT! This tournry Son had the same pressure,as RC couldn't miss.
I looked at the draw and see Josh/Son on our side,as well as Mike Peters/Ruben Gonzales...............Both these teams were capable and likely candidates to make it to the finals,......SOLID as they come!!!!!!!!!!!
BUT............ONE BALL at a TIME, and RC/ myself played out of our friggin minds to beat another team in "the Zone' as well. ........our common weekly adversaries!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!YOU HAD TO SEE EVERY POINT TO KNOW THAT THIS GAME WAS LIKE NO OTHER IN MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RC said the same, and I believe him. We clicked, they clicked, and we got the final breaker point!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! props to Son for his solid word, and to my partner gelling on the right weekend
the crowd, while swayed heavy in their favor was a pleasure, and very courteous, save 1 or 2
IT CAN NOT GET BETTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!MY GOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IS IT JUST ME????????? WELL I AM SIMPLY SO VERY GREATFUL TO BE A PART OF THE MOST EXCITING MATCH I HAVE EVER SEEN...I so hope some folks "felt"it,cuz it was too good to be missed!!!!!!!!!
The Final against last years Champs.Clubber/Solis had to be a bit of a "what the F----?" {HECK} lol
Well we were simply on fire, and the boys got burned with about everything a firestorm has in its path............the match started after a considerable down time for them as they breezed their semi-,and kindy offered us a rest before play...Clubber wanted our best..I am in his debt on that one,as RC was worn a bit from a previous singles win,and our brutal previous doubles.
I rolled the first three I touched from 60 feet, then served 8 straight, and Rocky was a friggin machine the whole match. We got all the bounces, cracks, perfect lob-drops...you know.."in the ZONE"
Clubber/Solis took it on the cheek, shook hands and will be hunting you folks out there.......may I suggest....give him the shot, and clear?lol
In Cosing. WHAT A RIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I worked harder at my game this year than ever, and believe Rocky and I both "left it all on the court....everthing!!!!!!!!!! Played our hearts out, which is all I know how to do.......I enjoyed witnessing the same in my partner.
Golly Gee.God bless you all.over and out,rh ps 3am after long workday,so spell-check if it makes you feel good...........
Gosh, what a great year, and absolutely wonderful finish to take title of the most difficult tourney I have seen in 27 years playing!!!!!!
I feel a debt of gratitude throughout my soul, and could not be more pleased with our play as a very "tight-in the zone" team.
For the locals out here,y'all know how far RC and I have come, and our struggles on the big courts.......
.communication, patience, practice, faith, skill, grace, and plain ole freekin putting a beating on that fireball.what a blast!!!!!!!WE PULLED IT OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This ole veteran teamed with a young,agile,super-talented great singles player 3 years ago,and we became a doubles team to be reckoned with.......what a trip!!!!!!!!!!!
I am greatful that I played near my potential, cuz if not,well...........too many good teams can find any weekness. We did not have a week spot in this tourney, and the teams we battled had nuclear devices of their own!!!!!!!If my partner is on,I better be,or I am misirable!!!!! TEAMWORK at its FINEST....I absolutely am on a high from this one!!!!!!!
Rubes turnes 55 Sunday, and I am happy we pulled of a championship at Ponderosa on Monday 7/16/07. Again.the talent is amazing as So. Cal's teams seem to be getting "dialed",so we had our hands full to say the least, while Rube's dug deep,as we sqeeked by.

Rubes/Mike for a great show....too bad you were on our side........you guys could have tuned up the other side, and we might not have got that first big lead in the Final, which is hard to fight back up through.......
Its real late, and my first whole day off work,so am looking forward to some r&r,but forgive the riteration....... We Freekin Clicked like never before, and fought through many mental challenges to earn and enjoy an absolute super-duper joy to the bones!!!!! Congrats to my partner and his wonderful family....super talent and spirit.........peace y all WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We had a wonterful trip 3 years ago..FLAWLESS in the most amazing resort on the planet..3 Years ago!!!!!!!!
5 of us returned the 19th of this month, hoping to give another great report....but um..............well?????????:-k
I realize folks will be with family, but my mom is in Heaven, and RUBE'S schedual out of Vegas allows only Sunday for this event.
Come win the prize $$$$$$$$ and take Mom out somewhere real nice!!!!!!!!!
Rube's and I are defending a nice run at Ponderosa, but the contenders are talented and hungery to take us down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If RC shows and plays as he did in the last event....well,could be interesting!!!!!
Jesus'2 will be battling, and played well at Newport yesterday.
All are welcome for a sure-to-be-fun-event...............
\
Anyway, hope to have some great fun in the Sun,but it will be tough to follow Newport's AWESOME turnout{14 teams) yesterday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our local talent is off the charts, and the competition the best I have seen.I enjoy my later years and am noticing a bit of deepening friendship in general, while maintaining the intensity....I love our crew, and it was great to have the Hogan's,and Mike visit............newcomers always welcome, and ya should get a taste of Gary/Jimbo's fixins....TASTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope ya all can Make it Sunday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

pss....... post you and your partner please......
The One-Wall legends just pulled in another victory in NYC,overcoming a Large deficit in the Final.
These guys have more levels to rise on command than does The Empire State Building..Congrats boys.......
I heard Benny was playing exceptional into the Final until "The Dynamic Dual" reached deep and did their usual rabbit-out-of-hat-miracle finish!!!!!!!!!!!
I am thinking a Ponderosa "De-Icing" trip would be good in a few months.....Same week as Nationals/WOR Championchips,or same week as King Of D Beach???????
1 Please put date ideas, starting with Ice/Freddy's availability
2 Please give opinions on top 20 1-wallers teams currently playing..including"dream teams".............

Free food/bev............
Oh...Rubes and I get to team up regardless of popular opinion.......
Peace out doggies
I believe this combo works well on small courts, and the Pro=Bowl tourney in Hawaii will see this combo at its best via Big Rod/Matt...................throw in the best home court atvantage known, and a team has to be in the zone to beat the Hawaain champs if they are on their game..................Big Rod puts a high overhead at your toes near the back line, which illicits a defensive return which then gets rolled in the left corner by Matt as his side arm swing keeps you back and watching--lethal combo...........toss in the fact both these guys can ace ya with the Aloha Z into the fence.....well its a long trip home as the crowd lets you know they love the "rock".
The courts are great to play, and no court more challenging, with climate and views ta boot......
So Cal has a few teams coming, the toughest arguably Zues squared, and tuned up via Rubes and I last week at Ponderosa..........whoever plans on beating the Hawaiin champs will need to score heavy while serving, cuz the locals will certainly run points frequently, assuming they are near their average game level.
If Gary makes it,he will land some increadible angles for aces, and give a scare to any team.
If Hogan gets Egan,well............that would be a killer team,as both have the talent and Hawaiin court experience.
Just a note to wish all the folks a great time at a great venue.................I wish I could make this trip, but my daughters schedual is rigorous,as well as my own..we are "hunkering"in and taking care of many things on the table, but might try a trip after school..................there is the slightest chance things could settle last minute that would enable us to jet over and back, but it seems not.
I have been asked several times if I am going, and it hurts to say no,but my sunless-white arse wishes otherwise.......great luck to all the lucky dogs making the trip, and remember to take it easy on that tasty BBQ sauce between games..............:) peace to all........and pray for our troops and familys........rob
Son,Clubber,Greg, and crew pulled together a fun event, really worked hard at it due to schedualing problems with the IRT guys........it went well, was a great time, and a class act in every way.thanks guys.
The 3 outdoor teams won 3-0,dropping no games to the IRT boys, who graciously gave their time. Perfect weather till the end when the Artic blast came in...............Rubes and I squeezed one in with Josh/Zues after everyone left. The bad arse duo beat are butts in one game, and the icesicles sent us packin for revenge another day,but JT/Zues were unconscience, and I believe had the lowest scores against them relative to us and the Nat. Champs, however all the crew was generous, kind, and very giving by the fact Rube's and I were handed the trophies and cash winnings.
A better indicater of the championship team calls for a round-robin with the outdoor crew..3 friggen tough teams if you ask me.2 out of 3 would be awesome with today's crew, but it would have taken some great ball to slow JT/Zues in "THE ZONE."...............hope to see some of ya all Sun. for Ponderosa Shootout excitement!!!!!!!!!!!!thanks, and peace, rob
Come on down, and there is no 6-shooter law in town,so bring in the cannons!!!!!!!!!!! Rube's and I will be defending a hard-fought local crown......... Micky/Paul.....redemption time? Zues squared................well you know.........its anybody's game..............peace,and more,D merrier!!!!!!!!!!! rob
I sincerely hope for a great 2007 for us all, and a miracle in this horrible war on terror.
Just back from NYC with Kayla and her three best friends.............we had a great time in a great city.
Visited a lot with THE GEEZER JOCK of 2006{appropriate name for Rubes.lol} and he and his family were the best part of the trip. Ubie cooks like no other, but something in the Stanton Island food subjected us all to a hilarious mood for a Talent show that was a knee-bender...........for any not aware Ruben was honored with 2006 Geezer Jock,a magazine with super recaps and photos for anyone interested............
Between the Florida then back then to NYC.........this Geezer is beat.................we stayed uptown Manhattan, and the girls had relentless energy.....there is nothing that we missed...........tons of walking, but all very pleasant memories.
God bless you all,and peace,rob
