I'm going to be in Oceanside and San Diego, August 16-21st .. .. wondering if anyone wants to play some singles or doubles....woman's low open player.
PM me!
Denny
OK - want to stir up a little discussion here .. .. What drives you the most nuts on the racquetball court?
Here's mine: people who won't call avoidables, or who get angry when they are called. Or alternatively, people who make up their own rules regarding avoidables...."you can't call an avoidable if you were going to take a backhand" or in doubles "well, i thought you were going to take it, and your partner did, so it's not an avoidable".
Really?
Anyone else?
Not looking to start arguments or controversy - just interested in what gets under your skin the most in this game that we love!

Does anyone know if the number of entries as shown for this event on r2sports is correct? Only 53 people for the state championships? Am hoping that it's just a matter of non-internet entries not being entered yet.....
Thanks for any info.

I wasn't going to post anything about this because it's only negative and I've seen people get flamed on here for not having something positive to say. From my standpoint, when negative things happen around racquetball, I think it should be brought to light so perhaps something can be done about it, or perhaps a different viewpoint than mine might come to light. In part I post this in response to those queries about why racquetball doesn't attract more people and why it's difficult to get financial sponsorship, etc.....
I was asked by some new friends I met at Nat Doubles to travel to their state and play in a big tournament this month. sounded like a great idea to me, and so I wrote to the TD to ask if I could play 3 events given that I wouldn't be arriving until late afternoon on Friday. I knew it was a big tournament and scheduling might be challenging. I made it clear that if it wasn't possible to accomodate me, no worries; I'd come another time. Also made it clear though that in order to make it worth my while from a time and $$ standpoint, I wanted 3 events. Once I had arranged for two doubles partners, I e-mailed again, told the TD exactly what time my flight would get in and asked for confirmation that he could accomodate those circumstances in 3 events. He wrote back saying "works for me. Send your entry and I'll put you in"........So I committed with the two individuals, sent in my entry fees, booked flights, car and hotel.
Yesterday, I get an e-mail from the TD telling me that the entry form states that if entering 3 events there can be no time restrictions. He doubts that he can get me in to 3 events, however, he won't know until the draw is done, and can't tell me what 2 events it would be. I called him the next a.m., and he denied sending the above quoted e-mail where he clearly said that 3 events were no problem ....told me that he wasn't getting paid to do this job, and that there was no way he could accomodate me because it's a big tournament. He's real sorry, but there's nothing he can do!! The conversation deteriorated from there, and he ultimately hung up on me after more denials about what he'd said and more lamenting about how he volunteers to do this, blah blah blah.
good lord -- if you're going to opt to run a tournament, then run the damn tournament. I don't want to hear some sob story about how nobody's paying you to do this. Who held the gun to your head? When did volunteerism become synonymous with performance mediocrity? If you can't accomodate a player's requests, then tell her/him. In the course of the conversation, he blamed the R2 tournament software package, the people at his club who entered the information, and me. Not once did he accept any responsibilty .. .. .. So, I'm out at least $100, maybe more as he now will not answer my e-mails about refunding my entry fees. What's more - it turns me off of tournaments in general - particularly any one where I"m going to have to travel a signficant distance unless it's Nationals or the US Open, where at least I'm assured that the people running it have some semblance of an idea how to do things. That's one of the reasons why people don't like to play in tournaments and why racquetball as a whole suffers.
For what it's worth --
