Premiere of film with St. Louis ties to screen at Plaza Frontenac.
The St. Louis Jewish Film Festival and the sport of racquetball combine for the premiere of a new documentary film called: Double A and His New York Knights. The St. Louis premiere of the film will be shown at Landmark Plaza Frontenac Cinema on Thursday, October 16, 2008 at 7:00p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $11 at the door.
The film highlights the life of Arthur Albert and his love of the sport of racquetball. Double A, as Arthur is affectionately called, learned the sport right here in St. Louis where he lived for 17 years in the late 1960’s to the early 1980’s.
Albert will be a special guest at the screening of the film along with the producer of the film, Roger Aronoff and racquetball superstar, Marty Hogan, who is featured in the film. A panel discussion will immediately follow the above mentioned panelists.
Albert learned the game of racquetball in St. Louis. He played in the Masters World Championship in 1972 and 1973 where he placed 4th and 5th. He placed first in the Masters State Championship in 1977, 78, 79. He is currently the racquetball pro at the Parker Meridien Hotel club in New York City.
Marty Hogan, as most St. Louis Jewish Community Center members know, grew up at the JCC playing the sport. He won the U.S. indoor professional racquetball national championship five consecutive times between 1978 and 1982 and won again in 1986. He was named the Professional Racquetball Player of the Year a record seven times.
What many are not aware is that Hogan and Albert are great friends. The two are featured in the film along with vintage footage of the JCC.
