Big Rod Felton has organized this annual event for over 20 years. With the NFL decision to change the Pro Bowl venue to Miami next year, Big Rod named this event the
2009 Hawaii Pro Bowl "Out the Door" Tournament. This marks the end of an era for the Waikiki Hawaii Pro Bowl Racquetball Tournament.
WOR recognized Big Rod with a plaque for his accomplishments and his efforts running this event every year. Big Rod was also presented a crystal cup at a dinner in his honor from all his many many friends from all over the world who have attended and played in this outdoor event for over 20 years. This is arguably the best location for an outdoor tournament for the scenery, activities, camaraderie and family fun. Hopefully, the NFL and the HTA can agreee on a new contract to renew the Pro Bowl in Hawaii starting in 2011.
Thanks Big Rod for all your hard work and dedication to outdoor racquetball. I am sure we will all be returning to "The RocK" very soon for a renamed annual event.

From where Ruth Zabelle watched Super Bowl XLII, she could see a cluster of swimmers playing in the ocean less than 100 feet away.
"It's wonderful," said Zabelle, who was attending an outdoor Super Bowl party behind the
Fort DeRussy racquetball courts. "Everybody gets to enjoy it."
Locals and tourists gathered in Waikiki to catch the matchup between the New York Giants and New England Patriots, which was expected to be the most-watched Super Bowl in the National Football League's 42-year championship game history.
The Waikiki beachside party was the fourth consecutive Super Bowl party by "Big" Rod Felton, a regular at the racquetball courts despite his 6-foot-5-inch, 360-pound frame.Felton woke up at 4 a.m. yesterday to begin preparations and said most of the people in attendance were friends with the World Outdoor Racquetball organization, which is holding its annual Waikiki tournament this weekend.
"It couldn't get any better," Felton said, "to come down and play the game we play ... and to watch the Super Bowl on the beach."
He continued, "If there's a better party, I want somebody to show me."
As they watched the Super Bowl at the Yard House in Waikiki, Bryan Gremwalt, left, John Brandt, David Sanchez and Kevin Riley cheered yesterday after the New York Giants scored a touchdown against the New England Patriots. The group is in Hawaii to work at the Pro Bowl. More than 25 people sat on folding chairs or at concrete tables under a shaded terrace by the sand, watching a 36-inch Panasonic TV or a smaller one. They cooked chicken, pork ribs, hot dogs and hamburgers on the beach grill.
Huntington Beach resident Son Nguyen, 36, joined the party as a tournament contestant, but he was busier watching his three sons on the beach than the game.
Still, he added, "Big Rod puts on a good show. He does everything big. He's a showman."
A short walk away, hundreds of people jammed into Yard House restaurant at Waikiki Beach Walk for the game.
Gary Bolster watched the Super Bowl at the Yard House in Waikiki yesterday. Bolster was rooting for the New York Giants, who upset the New England Patriots 17-14. Patrons surrounded the bar, with 110 kinds of beer on tap, and watched the game on the restaurant's 17 flat-screen televisions.
Restaurant manager Jeni Nikoletich said that by noon some 400 people filled the establishment for the 1:17 p.m. kickoff.
New York City resident Andrew Jacoby wore his running shoes because he knew he would be one of those left standing. He watched the game near the bar and appeared to enjoy himself.
"It's a great season for New York," said Jacoby, who came to Hawaii for business. "The team is electric."
Also in the crowd was Jenny Grier, an Army lieutenant who recently returned from Iraq. Grier, a Mililani resident, and her friends chose the restaurant for its big and numerous TVs.
She arrived at 11 a.m. to get a table but was standing by the second half to give her backside a rest.
"The best thing about it, you can actually see the commercials here," she said. "When you're deployed, there's no commercials."
"Big" Rod Felton gave a thumbs-up after a play while watching the game. Stover and a group of close friends hosted an outdoor Super Bowl party yesterday at Fort DeRussy in Waikiki.
Marty Hogan sent the following statement to the IRT, USRA and other governing bodies, as well as many individuals who support the growth of racquetball.
I think it's unconscionable for Kane to be banned from pursuing a living playing pro racquetball because he made one mistake. Taking away two years from a pro athlete can be a career-ending sentence. Even if he's 100% guilty of what he's accused, the punishment is still way to severe for a mistake so many people on and off the racquetball tour make.
This isn't a case of Jose Canseco or Floyd Landis cheating by using a performance enhancing drug to make millions of dollars. This is a young man who made a mistake and experimented with the same recreational drug or drugs that many pro racquetball players in my day used on tour regularly. If he were making millions in the NBA, MLB or NFL he'd miss a couple games and be in a confidential league rehab program for one offense. How can we as the racquetball community not speak up against this?
Please join me and contact the powers that be on the IRT, USRA and Team Canada to ask they show compassion to one of our greatest young champions so that Kane can be back playing pro racquetball this season.
Sincerely,
Marty Hogan
